Submitted by admin on June 22, 2009 – 11:05 pm2 Comments

ISAIAHGRAYSON6_30150.JPGVCU has added another valuable piece to the backcourt with the signing of Issiah Grayson from National High School Basketball Champ Findlay Prep. A lightning quick 5′10 PG, Grayson transfered to Findlay from Dunwoody High in his home state of Georgia. Grayson played this past season in a reserve role to Texas signee Avery Bradley at Findlay. Only 17, Issiah would have been forced to seek out a new prep school after finishing the required credits at Findlay, who stopped taking 5th year prep players.

Other interested schools included Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida State, and Temple according to Rivals.com.

  • Jeffery miller says:

    Congratulation To issiah Grayson
Not only is this kid a great player but a academic genius. He is the key to getting the JOB done, he’s quick and move the ball well. Issiah is also excellent in the pick and Roll he dominated in Dunwoody high school taking them to the Finals. VCU has made an Excellence choice signing this kid he may not have played as much at Finlay Prep but look for this kid to dominate on the court at VCU. Much respect to Shaka Smart for making a wise choice.

I was anticipating perhaps a bigman with final scholarship this year, but clearly Coach Smart looked at present guards and didn’t think the existing 7 covered needs for his style. With 8 guards will Smart redshirt some or play a full-time 3 gaurd lineup?

I’m very glad to hear Issiah Grayson is an excellent student—sounds like he has significant upside for physical growth and the apptitude to learn. I’m proud he’s a RAM and wish him much success!
