Eric Maynor and Jazz set to kick off season Wednesday on ESPN

Submitted by admin on October 27, 2009 – 4:45 pmOne Comment

20090628__jazz_0629~P1_300VCU Hall of Famer Eric Maynor will see his first regular season NBA action Oct 28th at 10:30 ET as the Utah Jazz head to Denver to open their season against the Nuggets on ESPN.

The Jazz have their work cut out for them against a Nuggets team coming off a season that included a Western Conference Finals appearance and 33-8 home record.

Maynor won CAA Player of the Year honors this past season averaging 22.4 points and 6.2 assists for the Rams. The 20th pick of the Jazz has posted solid numbers this preseason with 8.8 points, 4.1 assists, 1.88 steals, and 1.9 rebounds in only 22.1 minutes per contest.

Injuries to Jazz front court players Kyle Korver, C.J. Miles, Ronnie Brewer, and Ronnie Price have forced Utah to experiment with Derron Williams at off guard beside Maynor at the point. Utah Head Coach Jerry Sloan may be forced to play the rookie more minutes than he may have envisioned this early in the season… which is great news for Maynor and all of Ram Nation.

Quite possibly, Eric is the most complete player in VCU history, but he is not a Hall of Famer yet. That said, he is a certainty for the Hall in 10 years when he is eligible. My second favorite Ram of all time behind Jesse Pellot-Rosa.
