Quick Recap: VCU v. Virginia Union

Submitted by admin on November 6, 2009 – 10:52 amNo Comment

AUTNKYSMDLPQEPQ.20090130150937“Havoc” is the word we’ve been hearing since Shaka Smart was hired as VCU Head Coach, and havoc is what we got tonight as the Rams took on cross town exhibition rival Virginia Union. Havoc’s nickname…Larry Sanders. In only 23 minutes, Larry posted and effortless 22 points, 14 rebounds, 6 blocks, 1 assist…and ZERO fouls to help VCU to a 85-55 win over the Panthers.

Brandon Rozzell came out with the hot hand off the bench, scoring 12 of his 14 points points of the half from behind the arch. Joey Rodriguez saw the most PT on the night and was steady as usual, posting 11 points and 6 assists in 30 minutes of play.

Freshman Issiah Grayson did his best Joey Rodriguez impersonation dishing 3 assists in only 5 minutes of play (Maybe we’re jumping the gun on this one, but Ram Nation LOVES us some Issiah Grayson).

All 12 available Rams saw action and all 12 scored. VCU’s depth was just too much for a fatigued Union who turned the ball over 21 times on the night.

The Rams shot 46.3% from the field despite only hitting 7 of 25 three pointers against the Panthers.

VCU kicks off their season next Friday at home against Bethune Cookman, 7:30 tip.
