With the rise of VCU basketball over the last several seasons has come an uptick in interest around the program from the local, regional, and national media. Nowhere was that more evident than October 24th at VCU men’s basketball media day. Over 30 media members gathered at the Siegel Center to interview Shaka Smart and a number of VCU’s basketball players including Darius Theus, Troy Daniels, Juvonte Reddic, D.J. Haley, and Treveon Graham.
Several local news stations covered the event and had features in the evening news in Richmond. Regionally CSN Washington’s Jill Sorenson made the trip from D.C. and the Daily Press’s David Teel made the trip from Newport News to cover the event . College basketball insider for the CBS Sports Network Jon Rothstein with a strong twitter following of over 17,700 made a stop on his 12-day national college basketball tour to attend the event and observe practice afterwards. If there is any doubt that the VCU brand is growing, look no further than the coverage of this event.
