Coach Shaka Smart and his staff received great news when 6’8, 240-pound PF Terrance Shannon was cleared to play for VCU for the upcoming 2013-2014 season. Shannon previously played in the ACC at Florida State and was the third-leading scorer (7.9 ppg), second-leading rebounder (5.9 rpg), and team leader in steals per game (1.2) last season. Just when everyone thought Shaka Smart was done with the class of 2013, the staff received a commitment from 6’3, 165-pound guard Doug Brooks out of Lake Wales, Florida (hometown of 6-time NBA All-Star Amar’e Stoudemire). The VCU Rams open up the 2012-2013 campaign against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The game is connected to the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament.
