CAA Tournament: Liveblog – VCU vs. ODU

Hassell gets a put back dunk for ODU and there is one minute left in the game. ODU doesn’t foul. Sort of a mystery if you ask me. 29 seconds to play and Brandon fouls Finney who goes to the line. Gets his first. Second falls too. Still no fouls and ODU lets VCU run the clock down. WE WILL BE GOING TO THE FINALS!!! You BETTER GET HERE TOMORROW NIGHT!!!! VCU IS YOUR WINNER 61-53. Eric ends with 23. Larry with 12. VCURamNation Loves you and will see you tomorrow night!! GOOD GAME….VCU GO RAMS GO!!!! Oh, and Go Towson!!!

ODU misses a three and VCU gets the ball back. VCU can’t sccore and James misses for ODU. VCU gets the ball back again. 1:45 to play. Maynor throws up a sicko sicko sicko alley-oop to Larry. No one in the building saw that exclamation point coming. 61-49 VCU. 1:33 to play. ESPN might be calling for that one.

What did I tell you? I’m not saying..I’m just saying…Joey good for a big three from the same spot he was missing from earlier. ODU misses a shot and TJ is fouled on the other end. He misses his first free throw. Lee checks back in with Finney. 2:57 to play in the game and TJ makes the second shot to push VCU to a 10 point lead. 59-49 VCU. Timeout on the floor by VCU.

Bradford at the line. 1 and 1. Gets the first. Second is money too. 55-46 VCU leads 3:50 to play. ODU gets a three point opportunity as Bradford is called for his 4th personal. Carter gets all three. Blah. 55-49 VCU. 3:35 to play.

ERIC MAYNOR!!! Holy smokes… That kid just hit a three pointer from the STU about 20 blocks away. That was loooooong distance. Sick. ODU takes a timeout. VCU leads 53-44, VCU. 4:24 to play.

Lee gets both shots to fall. 49-45 VCU leads. 5:33 to play. Maynor is fouled while shooting and he will now step up to try to push it back to a seven point lead. He only gets the front end, but that makes it six points. Lee misses a hook shot and Sanders pulls the board down. VCU has got to play smart.

Joey misses a three but Larry gets a big offensive rebound. New shot clock is big for us. Larry fouls Bazemore and sends him to the line for two. Again clock stops and ODU gets to try to pull within 4. They do and Lee checks back into the game. Bradford from the corner is good for three points. 49-42 VCU leads. 5:47 to play. Lee gets KP to foul him and that is it for KP. Five fouls and he will have to watch and root his team from the bench. TJ will take his place.

Just got our first box score. Those things are worth gold on press row apparently. Ha. VCU is getting outrebounded 31-25. VCU must be making a push in the department cause it was just awful earlier. Eric looses the ball and KP fouls again. That is his fourth and VCU’s 10th team foul. ODU is in the double bonus from here on out. That isn’t a very good thing. Finney misses both shots thankfully.

If you just saw Eric drive to the paint you would know why they say he has two speeds. That was lightening fast. Timeout on the floor. But not before ODU turns the ball over and Eric scores. Joey shoots an airball. He is having shooting troubles today, but he is gonna make one here in a minute I can feel it in my bones. It’s gonna be a big one too. VCU leads 46-40 with 7:46 to play.

Larry picks up his second foul, but he also stops the clock and sends ODU to the line. Carter will shoot the one-and-one. He wil lget to try at the second shot. He gets that one too. four point game. 44-40 VCU. 8:55 left.

Missed three by ODU Larry rebounds and Maynor drops the ball off to Joey. He misses the three but Larry is good for the put back. Lee heads to the bench again as play is getting physical. Blaine doesn’t want him picking up a silly foul. Timeout taken by ODU. VCU leads by six, 44-38, but there is a lot of ticking left on the clock. 9:20 to play.

Bazemore is shooting one plus the bonus. He makes both and ODU trails by three. Dangerous possession by VCU. We can’t score, and Maynor is out of the game. TJ fouls Lee and will send him to the line. Ugh. Maynor, KP, and Bradford check back in. Lee is good for only one shot and that gives him only three on the day. Maynor gets the rebound and takes the ball up the court. 7 seconds on the shot clock and Maynor drives the lane and scores. 42-38 VCU. 10:13 to play.

The under 12 minute timeout couldn’t come at a better time. Eric misses a contested shot as Lee is guarding him and ODU spints the ball down the court. Nixon accidently trips up the ball handler, but accidently doesn’t matter here. ODU will be at the line when we come out of the timeout. That is the 7th team foul on VCU and ODU will be in the bonus. Gotta drive at the big men for ODU and get Lee in deeper foul trouble. Maynor knows that though. He will get it down if he can. 40-35 VCU. 11:30 to play.

TJ gets a great pass into Larry and he puts in a dunk that shakes the base of the Coliseum. TJ is called for the foul on the other side and Neely gets a three point play. 40-35 VCU leads. 11:56 to play.

ODU ball out of the timeout. Finney will inbound with Lee still on the bench. Gotta take advantage of that. Nixon comes up with a steal and is fouled while laying the ball up. Doesn’t get the basket, but he will shoot a pair. Nixon gets one of the two and misses his second. Goes for his own rebound and knocks the ball out of bounds off ODU. VCU gets the ball back. HUGE. Maynor drives in and is fouled. That is Finney’s fourth foul and team foul number sixth on ODU. Finney will have to sit. Maynor gets the first free one. The second is just as pretty. That pushes the VCU lead to 38-32 VCU. 12:44 to play.

Gerald Lee picks up his third personal and will have to sit. Maynor is smart man. Drives and gets the ball to Larry who is fouled while shooting. Larry misses his first. Lee limps off the floor, appears to be ok though. Larry misses both free throws. Full timeout by ODU. 35-32 VCU leads. 13:27 to play in someones season.

Back from the timeout and now Saintil picks up a quick foul. that is his second. God bless Eric Maynor. James fouls Eric as his floater floats through the net. Three point play is good. TJ checks in and Saintil takes a seat. Might need his minutes later. VCU leads by three, 35-32 with 14:47 to play.

Bradford picks up two quick fouls and that puts him at three. VCU can’t score on the possession and Larry is called for the travel. Timeout called right after KP picks up his third personal foul. Our guys are gettng in foul trouble and there is still 15:38 to play. VCU leads by 2, 32-30.

VCU takes the lead off a bad ODU pass. Eric dishes wide open to Brandon for a big dunk.

Finney misses a shot and Brandon fights for the board. Neely, laying on the ground, reaches out and trips KP to the ground. KP hits about a 17 footer on the other end. That ties the game. James misses a three for ODU, and we are still getting out-rebounded. That has GOT to change.

Joey picks up his third foul and Finney is taking free shots. Brandon spells J-rod and Finney misses both shots. On the other end Maynor drives hard and dishes to KP. He is fouled while shooting and gets a a chance at the stripe. Can’t connect on his first. Not the most fundamentally sound group of players on the court, ha. At least KP gets his second shot to fall. 30-28 ODU leads. 17:47 to play.

ODU misses and Larry gets his first board of the second half. But Joey turns the ball over. ODU scores and now has a three point lead. Bradford tries to tie the game up with a three but it bounces off the rim and behind the backboard.

Back from half. 28-27 ODU leads by one.

Event staff just told me I will lose internet one minute before half. Sanders gets the bucket for VCU and then ODU gets the shot clock taken out from under them. VCU ball. 1:31 to play and VCU leads 27-25. Be back after the half and the modem here is reset.

Eric hits his first three and the Rams reclaim the lead. 25-24 VCU. Rams almost get the ball back from ODU, but TJ is called for a late foul. So, instead ODU gets to the line. They only make one of the two and the game is knotted up at 25 with 2:19 to play.

Eric at the line and is good for at least one as he makes the first. The second shot is just as good and will pull the Rams to within two. 24-22 ODU leads TJ grabs a board off a missed James floater. VCU with the chance to tie, or take the lead.

Larry gets a block on James and there is only six seconds on the shot clock. Hassell picks up his second foul and Maynor will go to the free throw line. 24-20 ODU leads with 3:57 to play.

Lee is charged with his first foul, but that is their seventh team foul, and Sanders will now shoot one plus the bonus. He gets the first to go, and the second to follow suit. 6 point game now. VCU is getting killed on the boards. SOOO many second and third chance plays. Maynor gets another three point opportunity, but he misses his shot and VCU trails by 4 with 4:34 to play in the first.

Maynor finally gets his first points of the day, plus the bonus shot. Three point play is good. That will pull the Rams withen 7 points. Our student section needs to wake up. I know it’s daylight savings, but there is a damn game going on. There doesn’t have to be a block or a dunk for you to be involved. GET LOUD!!! Saintil gets his first foul, and that will send Hassell to the charity stripe for the one-and-one.

ODU pushes their lead to 10. 23-13 ODU leads. 6:59 to play in the first.

Timeout called. KP is fouled before the timeout. 5 teams fouls on both teams. Make that 6 on VCU as KP is called for the over the back. Burgess will have to come in and relieve him.

Back from a timeout and TJ scores for the Rams. Lee gets on the board for the first time today. And Nixon turns the ball over on a traveling violation. VCU is doubling on Lee making it hard for him to shoot, but he dishes the ball off and Joey gets called for the foul. Hassell misses his first free shot, but his second is good. KP grabs a rebound off a missed Sanders shot, but he is fouled. Two shots for KP, but he can’t get the first to fall. KP misses both shots. ODU gets an easy open layup right in the middle of our 2-3 zone. Brandon gets another floater in the lane to fall.

ODU gets about three offensive rebounds, but can’t score before the get called for traveling. Sanders checks back in for Nixon. Brandon gets a great little runner from the paint to drop and pulls the Rams withen 3. But Carter gets the points back for ODU. 14-9 ODU leads with 11:17 to play in the first.

VCU is rocking the 2-3 zone and Saintil is guarding Lee. He steps up and intercepts a pass and VCU gets an offensive possession. Eric kicks it under the basket to TJ and he gets the basket plus one. VCU then implements the press and Nixon gets the ball back and Burgess gets the bucket. 10-7 ODU leads. 14:02. Eric gets the ball to TJ again and he is fouled, no shooting though. A missed shot by TJ gets the ball back ODU, but the turn the ball over again. Brandon misses a three and Burgess is called for over the back. Late I might add.

ODU hits a three and then Nixon turns the ball over and ODU gets a dunk. Bradford misses a shot in the paint and ODU gets the board and KP fouls. Not a very good sequence of events. ODU leads 8-2 with 15:30 to play in the first. VCU has 3 fouls to ODU’s no fouls.

VCU turns the ball over as Larry can’t handle a pass from Eric. Joey takes a three point shot, but can’t get it to fall. Eric gets back down the court but fouls Neely on his shot. Nixon checking in for Sanders, as Lee will take a seat also. Neely misses his first, but gets the second to go. ODU leads 3-2 with 16:24 to play in the first.

VCU wins tip. Possession arrow to ODU. Maynor misses his first floater attempt and the board is stolen from Larry. ODU can’t score on the opposing side and the ball goes out of bounds to VCU. This game is fast already. VCU turns the ball over and Larry makes the shot miss for Lee. Larry does get a hook shot to fall onn the other end and VCU is on the scoreboard first. Sanders picks up his first foul though. Stupid foul. Stop leaving the floor. Jumping up to block a shot and gets a foul at the 17:59 mark. ODU ties the game with two foul shots.

2 minutes until tip off and VCU has taken the floor. The place is gonna be rockin’ today.

Welcome Home Everybody! It’s Sunday, Semi’s are almost upon us and we need you here more than ever! But as always, if you can’t make it we appreciate you sticking through the game with us online. I will do my best today to keep the commentary and pictures as fluid as possible. The internet connection here isn’t always reliable, but we are working hard to get you all the video/pictures/blogging possible. 15 minutes until tip off. VCU GO RAMS GO!!!

CAA TOURNAMENT: VCU vs. GSU

Game over everybody, VCU will live to fight on Sunday 61-52 is your final. Good season GSU and Coach Rod Barnes. We will see you next season. Now it’s ODU’s turn to lose to Hofstra. And now it’s my turn to sit and watch a game. Check the post below for final stats. Sorry about the internet, and we will see you beautiful black and gold children on Sunday! VCU GO RAMS GO!

GSU is playing the fouling game with 44 seconds to play. Brandon will go to the line. Looks like the Rams will have this one locked up. Rozzell gets his first shot in just fine. And the second shot follows suit. Gerard Smith is checking in as soon as Eric gets his free throws in. He will end with 18 points. Joey will end his day with just 3 points. And Larry takes a seat early with 8 points.

VCU turns the ball over as Larry is called for the traveling violation. Nixon checks in and KP takes a seat for the Rams. Chase is called for a quick foul off a GSU turnover. Joey is fouled and then run out of boiunds into the loving arms of KP hah.

Maynor gets a pretty layup, but GSU comes down the court and pulls a wide open three. 58-49 VCU leads. 2:35 to play. Rod Barnes calls a timeout.

Burgess hits another three for VCU and we needed it. That will push the VCU lead back to 10 points and just under four minutes to play. 3:49 to be exact.

Eric picks up a ludicrous third foul. Clean block. Maynor hits a three as the whistle blows for the foul, but the ref’s wave it off. The Coliseum is pissed and booing loud and hard. VCU leads 53-44. 4:54 to play.

Larry gets sent to the line and the crowd erupts into cheering and applause, ha. He misses both attempts though. Joe Dukes does a nice up and under to get past a swatting Sanders. Nice move really. GSU trails by ten points. 47-37. 7:34 to play.

After taking a break Maynor gets back onto the court. 10:00 to play in the second VCu leads 44-29 and we just picked up our 5th team foul. GSU gets a three point play to work in the favor. Eric finds Brandon on the opposite side of the court and he hits a three to get us those points right back. Turnover by GSU and they give us the ball on the inbounds.

Maynor gets his first three pointer of the game and pushes the lead to 16 for the Rams. Chase gets a couple free throws to go. And Brandon gets a three of his own to drop. VCU leads 44-29 with 11:29 to play. Timeout on the floor. dsc_0108-medium

Bradford drives the lane off a Nixon assist and gets bucket. Then promptly gets the steal to go with it. TJ makes a patented head fake under the basket and then gets the easy layup after juking GSU player out his shoes. GSU can’t take the pressure defense. This place is getting mighty mighty loud. Turnover by GSU.

Ok back from half at the 15:45 mark. The internet is poor here everybody and I apologize for that. Maynor has scored four points and Bradford hit two three points. VCU leads 34-21.

Not how it was designed but it was better. Brandon misses a long three, but Larry gets the sickest of sick put back dunks. Literally, right before the buzzer. VCU leads at half 24-15. Gotta take a breather myself. See you back here soon.dsc_0083-medium

Sanders gets his first block of the night at around the 1:15 mark. VCU doesn’t get the offense to match it though as Brandon is caught sleeping a bit and the shot clock ticks out from under us. 8.6 seconds to play and Maynor calls a timeout to set the play up right. dsc_0080-medium

TJ gets both free throw shots after Chase fouls him. Larry gets his first dunk of the tournament off a pass from Maynor. And then Brandon gets a steal off the press defense and takes the ball straight in for his own dunk. GSU is struggling with out press right now. VCU might have come out a bit slow on offense but our defense shall maintain. 2:25 to play in the first. VCU leads 22-15.

This game is less than pretty. Ha. Larry and Joey take a seat while Brandon and TJ check in. Timeout on the floor. 3:40 to play until half and VCU leads 16-15.

Real poor internet here. Struggling to keep up with the demand of all the media outlets. KP misses a couple free throws. Saintil checks in and draws the charge. But Maynor turns the ball over as it just slips out of his hands. GSU ties the game at 15. But get a free throw shot to make it a three point play. They can’t capitalize though. GSU will now send Terrance to the line. Two shots. Saintil gets one of them and the lead back for VCU. 16-15 5:11 to play.

Well, poor internet here at the Coliseum, but Maynor checked out and Joey came in. Since that point GSU scored and tied that game. But TJ got the points back for us. Off shot by GSU and TJ rips a board away. GSU takes a thirty second timeout. 15-13 VCU leads. 7:40 to play in the first half. dsc_0016-medium1

Timeout on the court. dsc_0019-medium

Larry gets a basket, Nixon draws a charge. And we are at a two point lead 13-11 VCU. 11:58 to play.

Rozzell checks in for Joey and immediately gets a basket. That is great to see. A baseline jumper from about 10 feet out. KP takes a breather for the Rams as Nixon see’s his first action of the day.dsc_0065-medium

Maynor gets his first basket of the game after pulling on of his patented act like you’re passing the ball over-the-head fakes. I love that move. Ha. Timeout. VCU leads 9-8. 15:59 to play in the first. dsc_0064-medium

Larry gets his first basket with a one step hook shot in the paint. 7-4 VCU 16:53 to play in the first. Scratch that. 7-6 VCU leads.

Joey gets his first foul and sends GSU to the line. The hit both free throws. He gets it back though. Joey hits a three off a nice high screen from Larry and dish from Bradford. Looks like Joey is rockin’ a bit of a mohawk too. Turnover by Larry. But a quick shot fro GSU turns the ball back over.

KP gets first blood. How appropriate. Maynor gets the ball to KP under the basket and he gets VCU on the board.

Lineups are being announced and wouldn’t you know, ODU is cheering on GSU. Ha, but GSU doesn’t even want ODU fans in their student section. Don’t forget to sign up for Twitter updates while you are at the site everybody.

Welcome Home VCU Ram Fans!!Here we are at the Richmond Coliseum. Looking to take advantage of GSU for the third time this season. dsc_0003-medium

Liveblog: Senior Night – GSU @ VCU

Brandon holds the ball as time expires and VCU gets the regular season title.  VCU is #1. Book it.  CAA is ours in the tournament.  Good game everyone.  Eric takes the record, just short of a double-double, and wins the regular season.  Ever year he was a starter for us he brought it home.  God Love the guy.  We do.  The Rams celebrate at midcourt and a video is being played with Eric highlights.  Beautiful.  I don’t want to cry, but if I do…. He deserves it, ha.  OK gonna watch it now.  The Final is 69-41 VCU.  GO VCU!

Burgess gets two free throws to fall and only has four points.  That surprises me, I guess because his defense has been so great.  Brandon does a nice fake behind the back pass and gets the finger roll.  GSU is at the line because Terrance has zero luck and gets called for the worst calls.  66-41 VCU. 1:12 to play. Every time Gerard touches the ball the STU screams “shoot it”.  Rozzell does though and gets the three.  69-41.  30 seconds to play.

Brandon gets one of his free throws to fall.  62-39 VCU.  Eric is back in which surprises me a little.  Nevermind …Gerard checks in and Eric its to a standing ovation and hugs down the bench.  Eric Maynor chant underway.

Timeout on the floor.  Brandon will be shooting two when we come back.  61-39 VCU leads.  3:09 to play.

Joey has had some Maynor-esque strong no look passes tonight.  TJ couldn’t hold on to that one, but his passing is looking sharp. 59-37 VCU 4:04 to play.

Terrance gets his second bucket and then his second foul.  Two quick fouls, both sorta ticky-tack if you ask me.  Quick make up call though and VCU gets the ball back.

Maynor and Larry both take a seat as Burgess and Saintil check in.  Joey gets two free throws to fall and the lead is stretched to 22 points for the Rams.  57-35.  5:48 to play.

Eric is one assist and one point shy of another double-double.  Strange that is would only be his third of the season.  55-35 VCU leads.  6:17 to play.

9 assist from Eric has he finds Brandon for the threeeeeee pointer in the corner.  Lorenzo Watson is in the house, and the guy wears a big smile.  I love that so many Rams are in attendance.

Nixon comes up with the loose ball and goes the length of the court and finishes the play for his first basket of the night.  Maynor checks back in and spells Nixon.  50-33 VCU leads.  8:31 to play.

Joey misses a three but Sanders gets him the ball back after the rebound.  He gets that one to fall.  Larry then gets the steal.  Can’t take advantage though and a timeout is called by GSU as both teams scramble for the loose ball. 48-33 VCU.  10:13 to play.

Trani, Kendrick Warren, Calvin Duncan, and Eric Maynor.  Four of the five jerseys in the rafters are in attendance tonight.  Where are you Gerald Henderson?

GSU hits a three.  And Eric picks up his second foul in the form of a charge.  45-31 VCU.  12:42 to play.

KP leaves the game after catching an elbow from Chase.  Looks like blood was drawn.

Eric has 7 assists and 7 points with 3 boards.  Ed gets his second foul and Rashard Chase hits both his free throws.  43-28.  Eric gets another assist as KP gets a bucket and pushes our lead to 17 points.

Timeout on the floor.  43-26 VCU leads with 15:10 to play.  Larry leads the Rams with 14 points.  Eric has 7 points.  The couch potato hits his second free throw attempt and the place erupts into applause.  He then gets high fives all the way down the court.  Hah, awesome.

Larry  gets his second assist to Eric.  Maynor hits his first three of the night.

GSU is called for the shot clock violation.  Rams turn the ball over on a confusing pass that goes through Larry and Joey’s hands.  KP steps up and gets a steal and then a put back basket off a Larry Sanders miss.  Which came off a sweet little no look pass from Eric.  Sanders then gets a dunk off a pass from Eric.  40-22 VCU.  16:41 to play.

Sanders gets the first bucket of the half for the Rams.  36-22 VCU.

Second half is underway.

I’ve got senior dancers to watch.  I’ll see you cats later.  Time to Gold Rush.

Mat Shelton just read the play for VCU.  BIG TIME oop to Larry from Eric.  6.9 seconds to play and the Rams push their lead to 14 points.  A GSU turnover and VCU has the ball until half.

Terrance gets a three point play.  Eric steals the ball on the inbounds, but Ed gets called for the offensive foul.  Joey is responsible for yet another GSU turnover.  I would hate him if I didn’t root for the Rams.  He is pesky. 36 seconds til half. VCU ball. 32-20. VCU

Sanders gets a block straight into Ed’s hands and then somehow gets down court fast enough to get the put back basket.  29-20 VCU. 1:42 to play.

Eric gets an assist from Larry,  that is backwards.  I think Joey just got a block before that play took off, hah.  Awesome.  But Eric ended up with a easy layup.  Only seen him dunk it once in his career.  Q Hollinsworth is recognized at halfcourt as the only woman at VCU to ever pull down 1,000 boards and 1,000 points.  We love our seniors. Mat Shelton notes this is the “career quadruple-quadruple.” Ha.

KP gets 4 straight points for the Rams.  GSU calls a timeout.  They don’t know what to make of the Russian if he can make a 17 foot jumper clean as can be, ha.  23-18 VCU leads.  4:03 to play.

GSU gets a steal and they regain the lead.  18-17 5:13 to play.  Burgess gets a nice layup and steals the lead right back.  19-18.

TV time out.  Last forever.

Extended break for Maynor.  And we are looking really really good.  Eric and Larry go to the scorers table to check back in.  This is next years team.  PLaying smart, nice passing, lots of steals, forcing bad shots.

Rozzell with a steal and great acrobatic layup.  Great play.  Our defense is seriously playing to their identity, as Coach would say.  Dukes gets sent to the line for the Panthers, but misses his first.  Gets the second to fall and pulls GSU to within three.  17-14 VCU with 8:12 to play in the first.

Joey checks back in, while Maynor takes a break.  KP, TJ, Bradford, Rozzell, and Joey.  Interesting lineup, but good ball movement and TJ is at the line.  Hits his first.  And the second.  15-13 VCU leads 9:02 on the clock.

We are playing great defense, even though the score is 13-11 VCU.   We are playing well.  There is 10:14 left on the clock.

Man, I hate the internet sometimes.  Crapped out on me.  Joey left the game with his hand injury.  Has his fingers taped up now.  Eric broke the record and GSU had to call a time out because of good defense.  Place erupted, but now is back to being totally docile.  What a weird thing.  I don’t get it.  I mean the record just got broke and this is Eric’s last game at the STU.  GO NUTS PEOPLE!

Joey is playing good defense, but looks like he might have stubbed his finger poking for the ball.   Still in the game, but holding it a little.

6-4 VCU leads.  15:49 to play.  Eric is setting up plays.   Good ball movement and an assist for Maynor as Joey hits a three.  Mendez for GSU answers with a three of his own. 9-7 VCU.

Another traveling violations gives VCU the ball back.  Maynor gets a three point attempt but does not make the bucket.  Maynor does have two assist now, as Joey gets an easy layup.

Eerily quiet in here right now.  Maybe everyone is holding there breath.    GSU gets first blood.  But Sanders answers with a basket of his own.   Another Sanders basket off the Maynor assist.

VCU gets the tip and GSU gets the possession arrow.  Bradford misses a three and GSU is attacking.  Traveling violation gets the Rams the ball back.

Starting lineups are being announced.  Not nearly as full as I thought the STU would be… what the deal?

Well,  Senior appreciation is over.  Beautiful little ceremony.  And in the end, VCU pulls the string and Eric’s jersey falls from the rafter and will hang there for eternity.  The day was bound to happen, this better get the team going.

18:49 until tip off.  Festivities will be happening prior to tip-off this year.   I can never remember if that is how it’s always done, or if they do it after the game.   But now that I’ve typed that it doesn’t seem right.  We also made our predictions of when the record will be broken.  I don’t remember every one else’s guess, but mine was 17:26 mark.  Mat said 19:30 I believe.  Here’s to a good game though and a WIN!!!! Welcome Home everybody!

Liveblog: VCU @ JMU

A minute and 23 seconds to play. 65-48 VCU. Gerard Smith is checking in the game.

Maynor is out of the game. 2 points shy of the all time record. Senior Night here we come!! Records will break!!

Back at the line for JMU. 65-48 VCU 2:38 to play. Scratch what I said last. Eric just took a shot, ha. He missed though. KP fouls out, again. Gets a high five from Semenov. Also, my battery is about to die any minute, not sure why. Maybe my a/c adapter is dead. 65-48 VCU leads 2:06 to play.

KP gets called for the foul. That is his 4th. James back at the line for JMU misses both his shots though. Joey has a good take and gets the basket, Eric gets another steal and sweet pass to Larry who gets fouled on his dunk attempt. 63-46 VCU leads with 3:27 to play. Do you pull Eric? I would. Although, he controls the game well, and I bet he doesn’t take a shot anyways. He wants it at home where he is gonna get mad love. That would be sweet.

Also, Eric is now 4 away from breaking the record. Juwann James is at the line. He gets both and VCU leads 61-46. 4:40 to play. Eric scores again, and now is 2 away from the record. Shame we can’t sit him.

Stupid wifi went down. Sorry, but I’m back now. Unfortunately, we missed a lot. I think FMRick just got kicked out, Brady got a technical, Maynor got fouled flagrantly and VCU now leads 58-44. 5:24 to play in the game.

Larry gets fouled and that puts VCU into the double bonus. Gets the first to go and the second falls as well. 53-44 VCU 6:10 to play.

Bradford with the big steal and finishes …AND 1. 51-42 VCU leads with 7:08 to play.

Maynor gets his amazingly off balanced basket to go. Larry gets caught up with JMU’s Louis and and Louis comes out with a bloody nose. He looks to be ok though and that is good. He is back in the game already.

VCU gets nothing but a bad shot attempt from Brandon and the ball goes back to JMU’s hands. The crowd is coming alive now, does not bode well for VCU. Starting to look a little too much like last year.

Stalled offense and crowd getting into it, not good signs for VCU right now. JMU is back at the line. 45-40 with 8:17 to go in the game. KP and Bradford check back in for TJ an Nixon.

turns the ball over as Larry can’t handle the pass from Eric. JMU is at the line, again. Nixon hits a three. 45-36 VCU leads with 9:20 to play. Maynor at the line. Free throw struggles continue. He misses the first. And the second, wow. Larry fouls over the back. JMU shooting 1-and-1. JMU students are yelling some god awful things at Larry and Eric. Wow. That is waaay uncalled for..

Ref’s miss a blatant goal-tending by Juwann. 39-32 VCU leads 12:50 to play. JMU and VCU trade some three pointers and the lead is 42-32 VCU.

KP picks up his second on a bad screen at the top. But JMU fouls KP on the other end, holding his wrist, and VCU gets the ball back. Bradford makes his presence felt with a strong put back after his own missed shot. Another missed three by JMU and Eric finds Joey off a no look pass and he gets the easy two points. Brady calls a timeout for JMU. 39-29 VCU leads with 14:16 to play. Biggest lead of the night for the Rams, but a lot of time left to play.

JMU turns the ball over. VCU leads 33-26 with 16:43 to play. Can’t get comfortable though, gotta keep playing hard. Juwann gets fouled by KP and gets the basket. One shot for him…three point play. Bummer. Eric slowly brings the ball up and eventually fins Bradford for the basket 35-29 VCU with 15:45 to play. Time out.

Larry blocks another attempt by Juwann and Maynor gets the basket on the other end. That leaves him 12 shy of the record.

Loose ball leads to a jumpball. VCU gets possession. Long three attempt no good for JMU and VCU gets the ball. But looks like both teams are coming out of half with a bit of a slump. Larry gets two shots but misses his first. Gets his second to fall and gives the Rams their first points of the half.

Back and VCU brings the ball up, Maynor misses a 3 pointer and JMU gets the rebound.

Halftime: 28-26 VCU leads. Eric has 6 points and is 14 points shy of breaking the record. (Which I hope does not happen tonight, and instead gets posted at the STU, not to be selfish or anything. Unless of course we need those points. But hopefully we won’t)

On the inbound Eric gets tied up with a JMU player, the crowd boo’s and screams. But same situation occurs. Eric and the JMU player get up and laugh it off together. The run to half time together laughing. Good to see sportsmanship out there.

2.9 seconds left JMU has the ball. VCU leads though 28-26.

Juwann tries a three with 7 seconds left and gets blocked by Larry. They both start laughing, ha. Timeout by VCU and Larry and Juwann walk off the court patting each other on the back and laughing still. Ha.

30 seconds to play in the first Larry gets the lead back for VCU. 28-26 VCU

Louis misses a blatantly wide open layup up off a good pass. Ha. Maynor gets fouled on the other end and misses the front of the one and one. A jump ball is called but JMU retains possession. JMU hits a wide open three after a lazy effort by our defense to get back. Larry ties the game back at 26. And Juwann gets called for the player control foul.

Maynor picks up a foul and JMU is back at the line wit ha chance to tie it. Louis misses the first. But gets his second. 24-23 VCU.

Eric gets his first turnover off a slightly lazy pass. Brad gets called for two quick fouls. In his defense, the first was a totally accidental trip. JMU hits two free throws and VCU’s lead is now at 2. VCU leads 24-22 with 2:50 to play.

Larry picks up his first foul on defense. 4:42 to play and VCU leads 20-16. Larry gets 2 points but Juwann James gets a put back on the other end and evens that possession out. VCU still leads though 24-18 with 3:47 to play. Time out. Dance team. Ha.

Maynor sits and Joey is leading the point. Brad hits a baseline line jumper and ties the game for VCU. Good plays being run by VCU on offense. Just shots aren’t falling. Brandon gets a fast break but gets hacked hard. Two shots. First is good for one point. Maynor checks back in for TJ. Rozzell’s second shot….falls. VCU takes the lead 18-16 and falls into a full press with 6:04 to play. Press forces the turnover and VCU has a chance to push their lead a little bit here. Maynor gets another basket for VCU and I think that moves him to 14 points shy of the record.

16-14 JMU, 7:59 to play. Timeout on the floor. Burgess and Rozzell check back in.

Out of the timeout and Joey checks back in for Rozzell. KP hits a jumper from just outside the paint and ties the game at 12 with 10minutes to play. VCU is in a 2-3 zone defense. Joey gets a rebound and Maynor pushes the ball and gets the floater. 16 points to go for him. Juwann James gets the basket for the Dukes on the other end. Good balll movement by JMU is killing us right now. Can’t get them to fall on offense for us either. That doesn’t help for sure.

JMU gets called for the travel, and JMU fans get livid. They keep trying to call the game for the ref’s. TJ final scores for VCU after a long drought. 12-10 JMU leads 11:25 to play.
TJ gets a steal but VCU is not able to capitalize. JMU gets the board ad hustles back down the court and gets fouled. 12-8 JMU, 12:44 to play.
JMU scores 4 straight points. But Joey gets a layup, up and under, the basket. 10-8 JMU leads with 13:14 to play in the first. Big substitution for VCU as Terrance, Rozzell, and TJ check in.
Eric gets his first basket of the night in the form of a floater. And Larry gets his first block of the night on the other end. Eric only needs 18 more points to take the all-time lead for VCU points scored.
Sorry guys their dance team is on the floor after a timeout… gotta watch and not type. 4-4 tied game. 15:49 left in the first.
Larry shows how long his arms are and drives from the three point line and finger rolls from the free throw line, ha. But he gets it to go.
Burgess is at the line with two shots. Misses his first. Oh, boy…misses the second as well. Loose ball and JMU knocks it out. VCU maintains possession.

OK We are here. JMU takes first blood. Juwann James gets the layup.

Liveblog – Delaware @ VCU

Eric  is fouled again and gets a second shot at 30 points.  Makes his first and secures thirty points on the night. Misses his second one though.  Ha, Maynor blocks Dawsons three pointer and it is now known…Maynor does it all from the PG position.   Larry gets a block too and that will end the night.  A “We’re #1″ chant circulates as NU drops one to GSU at home.  Thank you NU and GSU!!!   Game over. Thanks for joining us.  See you at Reno!  Eric ends with 30 points and Larry with 19.

Less than a minute to play and Joey is fouled.  Sending him to the line.  I might start a “Fundamentals” chant if we miss another free throw.  He gets the second at least.   UD takes a quick timeout after they make a layup.  9 point lead for VCU with 36.4 to play.  76-67 Rams.

Time out.. Eric has 29 pts and 10 assist.  Egerson pushes Larry in the back on the attempt at the board.  Sends him to the line.  Larry Sanders……misses the first….gets the second.  Larry fouls Egerson his shot attempt on the other end.  That is Larry’s fourth.  Egerson misses his first, but gets his second.  75-65 VCU leads 1:14 to play.

Eric is using up some clock at the top of the key.  Larry gets a gorgeous fall away jumper and he has 18 points and 10 boards.  If that assist goes to Eric that would give  him 28 points and 10 assists.  UD turns the ball over again and Eric gets fouled.  He is at the line and gets only one of them to fall.  74-64 VCU leads 1:48 to play.

UD gets called for the travel along the baseline, by Reggie Greenwood too!!!  Big turnover, so VCU needs to capitalize on it.   Timeout though.  TV games always make the night go by slow.  VCU still holds the edge on the boards 26-22.  Is it a surprise we are winning then, it shouldn’t be.

Dawson nails a three for UD and the lead shrinks for VCU to two points . 66-64.  Maynor gets some of those points back with two pointer.   UD can’t score on their turn down the court and Eric is using a little clock.   Maynor pulls a big time three point shot over Egerson.  71-64 VCU lead, largest of the night, with 3:17 to play.

Eric to Larry in the paint for two points.  66-61 VCU. We need a stop and another basket.  UD gets caught in the corner and have to burn a timeout.  4:38 to play.

Sanders is fouled on his dunk attempt.  He is shooting a pair.  Makes one of the two and VCU has a three point lead.  UD can’t take advantage of their possession and Larry grabs another board.  Maynor gets fouled on his shot attempt.  Ref from the opposite side, Reggie again, walks over to warn Grant.  Maynor, meanwhile, pushes VCU to it’s largest lead of the night for the second time, 5 points.  Yeah, I said it, five points.  Ref’s give a defensive foul to Nixon on what looked like an obvious charge by DJ Boney, ha yeah I said that too.  He makes the first of the one-and-one, and makes the second to take the lead back to three for VCU. 64-61 with 6:03 to play.

Juwann Carter fouls Eric on the drive to the basket.  Second foul on him and 6th team foul.  Timeout..dance team timeout at that!! 61-59 VCU leads with 7:11 to play.  Also, someone is getting kicked out of the game on the West End student section.  Lots of cheering from the students.  Not sure what happened, but the remaining students are chanting something.  Meh….

Eric gets a field goal and the free shot that is accompanied when you are  fouled, ha.  Three point play and pushes VCU’s lead to 2.  61-59 with 8:06 to play.

UD has good ball movement and VCU can’t seem to handle being spread out.  Egerson responds with a three.  Maynor gets a lay in on the other side and UD is back on offense.

Still waiting on some sort of call from the ref’s.  Larry is waiting to check in.  He has 13 points and 7 boards on the night. And three fouls.  Jeopardy music is going strong….and this ..is..taking..for..ever… “Let’s go ref it’s a school night” just got yelled, ha.

UD’s Carter answers with a three.  Kirill gets called for the foul on the floor away from the ball.  Lots of booing and a couple ref’s group together and head to the scorers table to review something.  Tied game at 56 with 10:02 to play.

Bradford does a great job boxing out on a missed UD shot.  Which lets Maynor easily pull down the board.  Rewarded by a three pointer from Maynor.  he has 16 points and 8 assist so far on the night.  VCU leads 56-53 10:36 to play.

Finally back from a full timeout. UD inbounding.  VCU still rocking the 2-3 zone.  Rozzell and Maynor fight for a rebound and in turn the both go out and take the ball with them.  UD retains possession.  53-53 tied game with 11:42 to play.  VCU is outrebounding UD 18-17.  UD has more assist at 14-13.  VCU has more turnovers 9-8.   Another timeout, by the way.  Sarah Bates, a cheerleader, gets the biggest crowd response of the night bwalking on her hands the entire length of the court and then almost all the way back to where she started.

Rozzell has the ball at the top of the key.  Pegg fouls Kirill and sends him to the line.  First shot is good.   Nixon checks in for Joey.  Kirill makes the second a well.  53-51 UD leads VCU with 12:36 to play.  Kixon gets the defensive rebound and goes the length of the court for the lyup, contested and all, and still makes it. Tied game 12:09 to play.

Dawson gets a layup for UD and Bradford is called for the player control foul.  Turnover.  UD leads by one. Make that four. Egerson hits the 3.  51-47 UD.

Larry rebound, gives it to Eric, who gives to to Burgess, who gives it to Kirill who gives it to the basket.  UD gets a three and reclaims the lead.   But then Sanders gets a put back off a missed Eric shot.  VCU leads by one.  47-46 15:35 to play.  Sheesh.. coming in spurts like I said.  Ha, I’m trying to keep up.  Sanders gets called for a loose ball foul and that is hs third.  Time out…. thank goodness. 47-46, 15:19 on the clock.

Tied game 41-41.  After a couple missed shots, including a put back dunk by Larry, Joey gets fouled while shooting and he gets sent to the line for two.  17:57 to play on the clock.  His first shot putters in and then right back out.  No basket.  Misses his second one too.  Ooph.  Game still tied.  Scratch that,  UD scores.  Scratch that Sanders scores.  Tied again at 34.  17:18 to play.

Eric finds the lane and his floater for two points.  VCU is running a 2-3 zone out of half.  Kirill gets the bucket and the foul.  Kirill takes advantage and gets the old fashioned three point play.

UD at the line for three shots after Eric makes contact and knocks Carter over. He connects on all three.  41-36 UD leads. 19:25 to play.

Back… VCU inbounds and possession arrow favors UD.

Halftime..   38-36 UD leads…. Gold Rush Dancers…. Can’t talk…Must watch….

26 to play and Joey ties the game with a fade away jumper in the paint.

Larry gets sent to the line after  Pegg fouls him.  He will be shooting two.  Makes the front end…. and the second finds the bottom of the net.  VCU trailing by two.  And Larry gets called for his second foul.  Rozzell checks in so Larry can take a breathe before half.  Joey gets the pass from Maynor and gets his layup to fall.  1:05 to play and UD leads 36-34.

Larry takes a shot and misses, the rest of the Rams run back to play D, Bradford however goes for the rebound and saves the play.  Eric finds Larry for a big alley-oop.  34-28 UD leading with 3:08.  Kirill, after finally getting control of the ball, gets his shot to fall.  34-30 UD leads.  Traveling violation on UD, Adam Pegg to be exact, and VCU gets the ball with 2:40 remaining.

Coach Beth Cunningham gets a game ball and standing ovation for her outstanding accomplishment of 95 wins with the women’s team.  Most ever by a VCU women’s coach.  CONGRAT’s .. we love you Coach Cunningham.  Oddly enough, that 95th win came against the Blue Hens of Delaware, on this court, exacly one month ago.   Hope this inspires the guys to get one for Coach Grant tonight.

Eric gets the floater and 1.  Hits the free throw.  32-24 UD leads.  Brain Johnson, of UD, is 3-3 from downtown.  UD scores on a jumper, and VCU answers.  Eric misses his floater but Larry is there for the tap in.  Scoring is coming in spurts.  Hard to keep up with the typing when it dows come.  And then I get a four minute break while no one does anything.  UD turns the ball over with a traveling violation.  34-26 UD leads 3:59 left to play.

Larry gets a huge block on Ledsome and then on the other end Ledsome gets called for the foul.  Larry looses the ball… forget what I just said.  Larry gets his second block of the night, putting a three point attempt back into the face of Egerson (I think).  32-21 UD leads with 5:32 to play.

Breaking News: Pav’s whiteboard seems to have broken.  A medium sized chunk has broken off the corner with a note that says “Reggie, Look what you made me do!!”  I will hope to get an exact description of the problem later.  Hah.  Sadly this is more exciting than the game right now.  Kirill checks back in.  Larry gets a jumping hook to fall for him.  We can score in the paint.  Let’s not shy away from that so quickly.  Everybody loves a “Wachovia Three Point T-shirt,” but I like points more.  get the ball to Larry while he has the matchup in his favor.

Delaware is shooting 71%.  Gonna be hard to win unless we get that number down. Waaaay down.  More uncontested shots for UD, and more turnovers for VCU.  30-19 UD leads.  We are looking uninspired after looking so good out of the gates.  Timeout.

Ledsome gets a basket over TJ and Eric gets called for a traveling violation.  Another VCU turnover.   Wow…TJ gets a rebound and gets tripped and the same guy that just called Eric for the travel calls TJ for traveling.  Egerson nails a three over Larry’s outstretched arms.  26-15 VCU is losing.  TJ comes back and hits a fifteen footer.  9:19 left in the first. Rozzell gets his first basket of the night.  30 second time out.  26-19 UD leads .

VCU is driving the paint and passing back out.. Brian Johnson isn’t afraid to shoot though and gets the three for his team.  Kirill takes a quick jumper and gets it to fall.  Joey pulls a patented run up behind steal.  Nixon hits a big three, good for him.  And us, we needed that.  Not sure how we are in this game as of right now.  UD doesn’t look great, but they look better than us.  Lots of bad passes on our part.  And they are taking uncontested shots from all over their end of the court.

Egerson is at the line, and TJ waits to check into the game.  Nixon comes in with him, and Egerson gets both shots.  Kirill makes a bad pass and Egerson takes advantage.  Joey answers with a long three.  13-10 UD .  Egerson finally messes up and gets called for five seconds on the inbound.

Egerson drives the lane after getting a rebound off a missed Sanders shot.  Misses the basket but gets Larry Sanders his first foul at the 14:59 mark in the first half.  9-7 UD leads.

Kirill and Bradford both pick up a quick foul. Delaware scores a easy one under the basket and VCU turns the ball over.  VCU with a fastbreak opportunity but Eric can’t get the layup to fall.  UD, on the other hand, gets a three off some lazy defense. 7-7 tied game.  15:54 to go in the first.

Lots of passing and Eric pulls his first three attempt and gets it to fall.  Once again, turnover by UD and Eric gets another three.  6 points in 2 and a half minutes.  Not bad.

Larry gets fouled on his first basket attempt.  Misses his first though.. gets the second attempt to fall.  Full court pressure on the inbound.

UD wins the tip and VCU gets the possession arrow.  Almost immediately turn the ball over on a terrible pass.

OK, Bradford is my pick tonight to have a big game.  Wanted to go with TJ, but decided on Bradford, and Matt picked TJ so we have both those guys covered anyways.  Time for player intro’s and then tip-off.  Good Luck Everybody, except the four UD fans.

Wow.  5:21 until tipoff and there are about 20 people here.

Liveblog: James Madison @ VCU

Bradford might have more ice in his veins than blood.  Brad hits an insane three with no time on the clock.  Pushes the lead to 75-71. 7.9 seconds Larry grabs the defensive board and pushes the ball to Maynor.  He is fouled and steps up to the line.  Makes the first, missed the second.  JMU misses their last shot and VCU squeaks out of the game with a win.  DAMNIT.  that was something else.  Wish some of our fans would have been a little more hospitable, but I won’t lump everyone in with a few bad apples.  Our fans are great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just a couple that I wish would be cool.  None-the-less, VCU wins 76-71. Maynor ends with 22 points and that’s a night for me man.   Stress level through the roof.. PEACE.. SEE YOU AT ODU!!!!!!!

33.5 ticks on the clock. 15 on the shot clock. VCU leads 72-71.  VCU has the ball.  Timeout..

JMU scores 70-69. Still up one, Eric scores and pushes it back to a three point lead.  Jumpball possession goes to JMU.  Gotta stop them.  OK, we don’t though.  50 seconds to play.

Turnover by Larry and JMU scores to tie the game.  Missed three by Eric, big offensive rebound by Larry and Joey nails the three.  70-67  VCU.  Full Timeout.  Also, full anxiety.

JMU back at the line.  Nixon called for the foul.  67-65 after making only one free throw.  VCU leads 2:46 to play.

Eric makes his first three of the night.  Timing is huge on that! Wells throws up an airball for JMU.  Thank God.  67-64 VCU leads with 3:21.

FIRST BLOOD! Eric to Larry for two points.  Eric picks up a ticky tack foul and now has four fouls.  So does Larry.  JMU hits to free’s 64-64 tied game.

VCU gets its first overtime this season.  At least at the STU.  We gotta come out big on this.  Especially with NU dropping one at home to DU.  Would put us in darn good position.  But mostly we gotta protect the STU.  5 more minutes to decide a winner.  Let’s go Rams.  New ballgame.

6.7 seconds down by two and Eric at the line to tie the game.  Hits the first.  JMU timeout, trying to ice the kicker I presume.  Eric gets one more shot to tie this game and then we gotta defend with no fouls, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but hope for an overtime with JMU.  Ugh.

49 seconds and a fresh shot clock for JMU off a jumpball.  Shot clock violation.  14 seconds to play and VCU is down by two.

With two minutes to play the crowd shows up.  Loud and standing.  VCU ties the game 60-60 off back to back Maynor layups. JMU regains the lead 62-60.  1:05 to play.  Our defense has not played well.  Or free throw shooting plagued us.  Still time but JMU has the ball.

Eric at the line.  58-55 JMU leads.  Misses the front end, gets the second.  11-21 from the line tonight.  Awful.  We make those and we are up by 8.

3:40 to play JMU hits two free throws and takes the lead 56-55.  Rozzell misses a three.

VCU fans break out perhaps one of the worst chants I have ever heard and will not repeat.  Weak…

55-54 VCU trying to keep the lead.  Shooting 53% from the charity stripe.  4 minutes 12 seconds to play.  Don’t you have to believe we need to penetrate and try to get to the foul line as much as possible, Eric needs to step up to the plate and get those.  And his PPG average too.  I want him get that record.

Matt Parker is called for the intentional foul.  Calvin Duncan approves, ha. Rozzell to the line and we are in the double bonus.  GOT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE AND MAKE SOME FREE THROWS!!!!

53-52 VCU is clinging to a lead…that they just lost. 54-53 JMU leads.  The STU is dead right now.  Eric is almost neutralized, or just not getting the right looks.  JMU is collapsing on him after they let him in the lane.  Rozzell is fouled and steps to the line.  Misses his first, fo course.  Makes the second.  Tied game at 54 with just under 5 to play.

Our free throw shooting is awful. Just awful.  Slightly above 50% on 15 shots. FREE SHOTS!!!!!!

Of course, JMU hits a three.  KP is fouled and that is 8 team fouls on JMU.  VCU has 2 team fouls.  7:17 to play and VCU leads 53-50 as KP heads to the line.

Rozzell with the three and Swanston answers for JMU with a three of their own.  we gotta stop trading baskets here.  VCU turnover. JMU turnover.  Not much to talk about I’m trying here guys, ha. 50-47 VCU with 8:45 to play.  Rozzell with another three-pointer, now we gotta stop them.

Sidenote: W&M pounds UNCW and DU is getting ready to steal one from NU at home!  We gotta win this game!

JMU hits another big three… and they take the lead 44-43.  KP fights for his two points and we get the lead back.  This is dumb. Can we please string some points together.  Eric gives Larry an insanely nasty alley-oop.  I mean sick. Wow. 47-44 VCU with 11:20 to play.

JMU hits two big three’s right in our guys face.   Tied game.  Scratch that.  Larry gets the bucket and 1.  Hands up! …….  never mind he missed it. 43-41 VCU 13:15 left.

Seriously, not much to type here lately.  JMU has five fouls.  and VCU leads 39-34.  15:05 to play.

Kirill gets the Rams first basket of the second half.  Tied ball game at 30.  Kirill gets the next basket for us as well.  We finally take the lead.  It will be interesting to see how Eric plays this half.. Will he be super pumped after only logging 11 minutes in the first half?  Will Larry get more than 2 minutes this half?  JMU scores 32-32.

OK, first off…. no dance team at half.  Unacceptable.  Trani does get his “jersey” retired and hung from the rafters.

No lead for VCU. Turnover in fact, bummer.  OK, halftime, Trani gets some award.  Congrats.  Then the dancers I hope, it better be at least.  OK, you know the deal.   Break time for me to watch some dancing!!!

33 seconds to play.  30-28 JMU leads, but VCU gets to take this game to halftime if the want…with the lead, I hope.

Joey uses up the shot clock and gets a layup to fall just in time.  Just under two minutes to play.  Burgess picks up his first though and sends JMU to the line.  Larry really put us in a spot tonight.  Not having him out there has given us only 4 points in the paint versus JMU’s 14.

Great passing by VCU inside and back out.  Brandon hits a big three and we let them run the court on us.  Jeez, almost effortless.

Eric  sits down for the second time this half.  Offense has stalled a bit.  we are down 5. 26-21 and Nixon misses a free throw.  Gets his second at least.  26-22 JMU leads with 4:34 to play.

Joey is called for the travel as well.  Eric says something to ref and Eric is given a technical.  How many are we averaging this year per game?

JMU leads 22-21 with 7:11 left in the first.  JMU is at the line, but misses the three   point play.  Joey is running point and, wow, another travel by Eric.  He is slipping all over the place.

I’m enjoying watching Joey play this Ratner guard.  They are both small, quick, and scrappy.  But Joey pulls a big three.  VCU reclaims the lead 19-18.  Hmm, Maynor called for the travel.  You don’t see that too much.

JMU gets a away with a little push from behind on Joey.  Saintil gets called for the foul and KP checks back in.  That puts JMU almost into the bonus.  16-16 tied ball game.  Maynor and Larry on the bench.

Timeout.  TJ can’t get a nice drive and finger roll to fall.  Ed picks up his second foul and 5th team foul.  14-13 VCU leads with 11:53 to play in the first.

Great assist by TJ to KP for two.  TO by JMU and VCU gets the ball back.  No go though and Ed picks up his first foul back on the defensive side of the court.

Bradford hits a HUGE wide open three and VCU takes the lead 10-9.  Bradford comes up with the steal on the other end, but gets fouled.  Smart really to not let him get the fast break points and momentum.

VCU with the ball after some tight defense by Ed gets JMU called for the travel.  Swanston picks up his second foul and sends Nixon to the line.  Ed can’t get the first to fall for him, but has better luck with the second.

Maynor let’s Joey take over point and quickly gets the ball back in the lane.  He is fouled while shooting, on Swanston which is good, and Eric makes both his free throws.

Larry with the fall away jumper from five feet and we immediately go into a pressure D.   But then on the other end we pick up team foul two as Larry jumps to block a dunk by Swanston.   He makes JMU’s first basket of the night from the line.  Check that, he makes both.  And Larry gets his second foul in ten seconds.  Sitting the bench.  I mean come on man, you can not go over his back for the ball.

We lost the jump ball to JMU, but we get possession arrow.  And as always we pick up a quick foul.  25 seconds in and Joey gets the reaching call.  Larry gets a rebound on D, but our offense fails to produce.

I should have gotten a drink before I started this. Too late now.  Line-up’s are being introduced.

2 minutes until tip-off.  Welcome back Ram Nation!
