After a sluggish start on offense, a trio of VCU reserves gave the Rams the spark they needed in the Ram’s 75-65 CAA quarterfinal win against Northeastern. Rob Brandenberg came off the bench to lead all players with 19 points on the evening, and combined with freshman Treveon Graham’s 16 points in just 22 minutes of play, as well as Teddy Okereafor’s 8 points in 14 minutes, the VCU benched outscored Northeastern’s 46-4. For the 5th time in 6 years the Rams were able to get a bye for the first round of the tournament. They faced Northeastern who defeated William & Mary the night before. Last time these two teams met earlier this season the Rams squeaked by with a three point victory, this time the margin would not be as close as the Rams would win and advance with a 75-65 win. VCU ended their regular season in spectacular fashion, selling out their 18th-consecutive game and giving a major thank you to senior Bradford Burgess. Burgess thanked Ram fans back by dropping a career high 31 points in VCU’s 89-77 win over George Mason.
