2012-13 Best of Ram Nation Awards

VCU forced 23 Butler turnovers in the 84-52 win.

I was on the way to “the office” (today’s venue: Harrison St. Cafe) when I picked up a copy of Style Weekly’s “Best of Richmond” Awards. The local weekly mag polls readers on their favorites in a number of categories, including best indoor or outdoor venue for watching a sports event, which, for some odd reason was won by the Diamond this year (seriously Richmond? You’ve been trying to get a new ballpark built for years), with the Siegel Center [...]

Shaka Smart admits his team isn’t the best at playing a “prevent defense”, but that’s what VCU was almost forced to do after opening up yesterday’s CAA semifinal against George Mason with a 32-4 run over the first 9:15 of play. Credit to George Mason, they battled back and headed into the lockers with a glimmer of hope after whittling the lead down to 16, gaining an odd momentum in the process. VCU’s opening lead proved to be too much [...]

After a sluggish start on offense, a trio of VCU reserves gave the Rams the spark they needed in the Ram’s 75-65 CAA quarterfinal win against Northeastern. Rob Brandenberg came off the bench to lead all players with 19 points on the evening, and combined with freshman Treveon Graham’s 16 points in just 22 minutes of play, as well as Teddy Okereafor’s 8 points in 14 minutes, the VCU benched outscored Northeastern’s 46-4. The win advances VCU to a semifinal [...]

For the 5th time in 6 years the Rams were able to get a bye for the first round of the tournament. They faced Northeastern who defeated William & Mary the night before. Last time these two teams met earlier this season the Rams squeaked by with a three point victory, this time the margin would not be as close as the Rams would win and advance with a 75-65 win. Coming into the game, no one besides Bradford Burgess [...]

Longtime fan breaks down CAA tournament

Rick1

One of the biggest perks of running VCURamNation.com has been getting to know many of the folks who make VCU basketball such a joy to be a part of. We’ve interviewed players, met coaches, but more than anything have gotten closer to other fans through the games and our thriving message board community. One of those fans is an all-time great. Known for his famous “streak”, Rick Childers is the ultimate eye test, in that he hasn’t relied on radio [...]

Video: Senior Night – VCU v George Mason

VCU ended their regular season in spectacular fashion, selling out their 18th-consecutive game and giving a major thank you to senior Bradford Burgess. Burgess thanked Ram fans back by dropping a career high 31 points in VCU’s 89-77 win over George Mason. Fired up after George Mason took the court during Burgess’ senior moment festivities, the Rams came out angry, dominating the Patriots in the first half by hitting a barrage of threes and turning the Patriots over early and [...]
