Video: VCU makes a statement against Towson

HouseOfBurgess
The Rams came out pulling the trigger from the behind the arc with three 3 pointers alone from Sophomore Bradford Burgess who dropped 22 points in 14 minutes as the Rams beat up on the Towson Tigers, 112 – 53.

The Rams bench almost beat the Tigers alone adding 50 points while the Rams connected on twenty 3 pointers. This match up also saw the return of Jay Gavin to the court where he hit some late 3 pointers.

The Rams take on Georgia State this Saturday at the Stu.

VCU Rolls, 112-53

TeamstoBeatVCU came into tonight’s matchup having won 15 of the past 16 meetings against the Towson Tigers. At no point was that streak in danger tonight as the Rams cruised to 14-5 on the season, 6-4 in conference play.

The Rams got off to a blazing start behind a barrage of Bradford Burgess threes. Burgess lead the Rams with 22 points, 18 of which came from long range…in perhaps the most impressive 14 minutes of play by any Ram this season.

The Rams could not miss from three point land, hitting an astounding 20 of 33 three point attempts.

Larry Sanders had his 6th double double of the season by halftime, dominating the Tigers to the tune of 15 points and 11 rebounds to start the game. Sanders finished with 17 points and 14 rebounds to go along with 2 blocks on the evening.

Much of Sanders’ points came through Joey Rodriguez who had dropped 10 assists by the end of the first half. Rodriguez finished the game with 3 points, 3 boards, and a career high 13 assists.

Every Ram saw time on the court and nearly every Ram scored in VCU’s most lopsided win of the season. Tonight’s 112 points were a season high for the CAA’s top offensive team.

Brandon Rozzell (16), Jay Gavin (12), and TJ Gwynn (11) rounded out the group of double digit scorers.

VCU will take on Georgia State this Saturday, homecoming style. The Rams defeated the Panthers by 13 in Atlanta on January 16th.

Liveblog: VCU vs Towson

LiveblogTOWSON

Welcome back. The Rams will take on the Tigers of Towson after losing a tough road contest to NU. Time to rally and get a home win.

Jamal Shuler wins BBL dunk contest

Jamal-Shuler-BBL-Dunk-Contest-2010_mCongratulations to former VCU guard Jamal Shuler who won this year’s BBL Slam Dunk Contest with this nasty dunk…

(The BBL, or German Bundesliga, is the highest level German hoops league. There Shuler stars for TBB Trier where he has played since graduating from VCU.)

Northeastern Sweeps VCU

vcu-basketball2After struggling early the tide seemed to be turning for the Rams as a Larry Sanders dunk tied the score at 37. From that point on the Huskies of Northeastern kept VCU at a comfortable distance and finished with a 74-62 win.

VCU had won four straight heading into today’s rematch in Boston, but in a game when nothing seemed to go the Rams way, the black and gold could not seem to get over the hump as Northeastern controled the game’s tempo on the way to their 11th straight victory.

Larry Sanders lead VCU with 22 points and was the only Ram to score in double digits. Sanders lead all players with 10 rebounds and notched his 5th double double of the season.

Joey Rodriguez and Bradford Burgess added 9 points each but shot a combined 7-22 (Rodriguez was 3-13).

Nkem Ojougboh lead a balanced Husky attack with 18 points.

Four Huskies found double digits as Northeastern hit just over 58% of it’s shots.

The Rams (13-5, 5-4) drop to 6th place in the CAA heading into a 7:30 wednesday home matchup against the Tigers of Towson.

Live blog: VCU v. William & Mary

LiveblogWM

Like 13 other teams this season, VCU was stunned to drop its first contest to the surprising Tribe of William & Mary. The Rams weren’t able to close out a 13 point halftime lead this past December in the first of 3 CAA losses for the black and gold.

This game should have a different look however, as William and Mary will be forced to contain an additional 13’4″ 485lbs of Ram in Jamie Skeen (8.4 pts, 5.5 reb) and Terrance Saintil (3.5 pts, 2.1 rebs in 7.7 minutes of play). Both were forced to miss the first meeting (Skeen due to transfer rules, Saintil via injury).

The Rams have won three straight CAA contests, and are 8-1 in home games this year. William and Mary is no stranger to road diversity however, posting road wins over the likes of Wake Forest and Maryland in rout to a 7-2 road record thus far.

A win would move the Rams to 5-3 in conference play and make up a game on current CAA leader…William and Mary.
