It was the exact same situation VCU found itself in two years ago when Eric Maynor hit a buzzer beater to send the Rams into overtime and beat Duke. Except this time, with VCU down by one, the final possession was in the hands Eric Maynor, and the shot fell just a few inches short. Thank you Eric Maynor, Coach Grant, and the entire VCU basketball team for a great season and plenty of great highlights!

The Rams will advance to the CAA championship game this Monday after an enduring battle against the Monarchs of ODU. Eric Maynor put up 23 points, Larry Sanders had 14 rebounds and 12 points. VCU effectively shut down Gerald Lee, limiting him to just 5 points for the afternoon. Darius James, who has been an impact player for ODU over the past few games, put up 0 points in 34 minutes of playing time. VCU returns to the coliseum Monday night at 7 PM to battle for the CAA championship title. These photos should fuel your amnesia as we anxiously await Monday night.
It was a nail-biter as VCU fans watched the ODU / Hofstra game come down to the last 3.8 seconds. ODU had the lead at 52-51, Hofstra put the ball in the hands of Charles Jenkins, but Jenkins wasn’t able to get a good shot through. This means VCU will face ODU tomorrow for the 3rd matchup of the season. Gerald Lee put up 18 points in the first half, 30 points total – a force that VCU must be prepared for tomorrow. Despite having to play a tough ODU team tomorrow, the fans have got to be enthusiastic about the rivalry, and this certainly will turn the Coliseum into a packed house.
The quarterfinal victory goes to VCU as Eric Maynor scored 18 points and Bradford Burgess added 11 in the second half in VCU’s 61-52 victory over Georgia State Saturday in the CAA quarterfinals at the Richmond Coliseum. Photos below.
