The game at William & Mary is broken down, and we start looking ahead to the Black & Blue Classic against cross-town rival, Richmond. The stakes are set, and we present to you what we think the keys to the game will be when the Ram’s get the win.

In the season opener for VCU Ram Nation we sit down with former VCU guard, Julian Capel. We talk a bit about his family-ties to coaching, what he’s been up to, and who he has his money on when OU comes to town this weekend.

We also spend a little time discussing the up-and-down nature of this first week of VCU basketball; the win at home against Bethune-Cookman and the loss on the road to Western Michigan. All leading up to our showdown this Saturday, Nov. 21st, when the #17 Oklahoma Sooners trot into town.

VCU has wrapped up its season 1st in the CAA, but this is just the beginning – the 2009 CAA Tournament is right ahead of us. In preparation for the tournament, we call up the go-to-guy for CAA basketball, Michael Litos, author of “Cinderella: Inside the Rise of Mid Major College Basketball”. Michael guides us through the tournament as we look at each possibility looking to the final. Guest Bo Shelton gives us his “Coincidence of the Day” to fuel up superstitions. We discuss the recent win against JMU, CAA standings, and our thoughts on the team at this critical point in the season. We call up Matt White from RVANews to talk about our new poll question and discuss what needs to be done for another win against Old Dominion this season.

We talk about VCU’s two recent wins against ODU and Georgia State, and prepare ourselves for the upcoming home battle for CAA 1st place against George Mason.

There is no doubt that Bradford Burgess has earned his position in the starting lineup this year with the Rams. Not only has he started every game this season AS A FRESHMAN (not even Eric Maynor has such bragging rights as a freshman), he has taken home two CAA Rookie of the Week awards and is averaging 50% shooting from the field. The icing on the cake? Our listeners voted him, above Eric Maynor and the rest of the Rams, to be our next guest on VCU Ram Nation. So we’ve delivered. This podcast gives you about 20 minutes of interview with Burgess, as well as some good internal dialogue regarding the Hofstra performance and our next two upcoming matches (Towson and ODU).
