Ipanema. No sports bar, but lots of good beers on tap - including the new Richmond brewery, Hardywood. Also, good bourbon selection - and some nice rye available too (personal preference).

You will get discounts for having a VCU game ticket stub as well - awesome!

I've been known to do the Subway thing, but that's when I only have 15 mins before doors (aka "weekdays"). $5 footlong beats a $2 slice of cold pizza any day.

Been in there a few times. It wasn't bad, but the first time I walked in there, the jukebox stopped and everyone stopped whatever it was they were doing to look at me, old-west saloon style. Apparently, because my jeans weren't painted on me, I was an 'outsider.'

OK, so that didn't happen. However, the next time I stop by, I'll be sure and put on a sleeve of temporary tattoos and rent a pair of skinny jeans.

*Fist Shake* You darn kids and your 'Strike Everywhere' t-shirts and 'Sheep of God' Hoodies! In my day, we had to listen to the Ernies at Twisters...and liked it!

I was in school with all the Ernies...they actually had a song on the BASEketball soundtrack.

They're all un-cool old men like me, know

my old band played a reunion show a summer ago at Nancy "Don't Call it Twisters" Raygun....it's true, you CAN'T go home again.

Roger Daltrey and My Generation had it right.... :D

Actually found my Meson Ray CD not too long ago while rummaging through a bunch of stuff. It made me think of High School and all those 'All-Ages' shows I went to at Twisters/Alley Katz/ Flood Zone/ etc.

Now that I think of it....my old band (SaU) played witht the Ernies, Mr. Pink, and a ska band () called Blue Beat Revue at an All Ages show at Flood Zone. Of course, the Flood Zone is now Have a Nice Day Cafe...

as for the Ernies...I always likeJive from the Dropping Science albumn

I have started looking diligently for a spot to go before games at GW. I will report back with my findings if I can remember them.

@Jwetzel, as I'm sure you know, it's a bit tricky as that area is surrounded by high end shi-shi crap that the K-street crowd frequents.

These are my recos (loosely descending by closeness):

I'd be happy to help in the research. Maybe we can get together with some other VRN members and folks from the DMV Alum group and play host!

I remember going to Tonic for the last GW pre game. The hot chick that used to do the VRN videos was there and I missed my move lol. It was a cool place but I don't think they were allowed to serve shots.

I thought we did have shots there? It was kind of small, though.

Station 2 has the best wings in Richmond, not really close to the STU though..
