Saw this topic pop up on another site I frequent and thought it would be a great topic for RamNation.

So let's hear it, RamNation. You're the AD. How would you change the VCU gameday experience?

1- Large, Center Over-Head Scoreboard. State-of-the-Art. It will single-handedly change the look of the Stu
2- Complete Overhaul of the Crappiest Sound-System I have ever seen in an arena
    3- Another 1,200 Seats
4- VCU has great music- all over campus, & in many forms. Let's fill 5 or 6 street corners with it on game-day

would be #1, 2, and 3 in my book. But all these things take money, and a fundraising campaign to go with them!

You get some starving artists some work on game-days. Pay them enough to buy a few cases of beer. Or just let them do it for exposure. I'm sure there would be plenty of Fan Musicians that would love to do it. Plus- we have music through the school too- jazz musicians, etc. They could participate for credit, exposure, etc.

Heck- I'd get the music started a couple hours before game time. Have some hot dog carts and the like out there, and get a Beale Street type vibe going out there. A little mini-Marti-Gras type thing. You just make sure there are lots of Police out promoting a family satmosphere. That shouldn't be too much problem- since there are normally a lot of police around anyway on game nights. This would be most cool on Saturdays. Maybe have some more 4pm games, where you could do lots of pre-game stuff before hand.

As far as the money.... where things like scoreboards and sound systems are concerned.... VCU athletics has never had an issue getting the money to do these types of things, and this should not be a problem. Seems more like prioritizing, and driving towards these things. But if the new regime were to decide on these improvements, I doubt it would be a problem. Who knows if any of my wish-list were to ever happen.:?:

That's a fist. I'm not sure I want to know what liberties that grants him.

The space is used for much more than basketball events, I am not sure if the center scoreboard w video would work for the other events and not sure the design of the ceiling support system has space to retract a large center scoreboard I agree, that would be my first wish if it could be done.

    2. Take your corner bands to another level-literally. Have music and tailgate parties on the top of each parking deck.

    3. Expansion is being looked at and they shared the challenges. You cannot go up without going out and we are confined by the streets. The one option that looked possible was in the corners they reported a year ago. If 500 seats were added it puts us over 8,000 and still creates enough demand that empties should not be an issue. I am thinking once the training facility is under construction, adding seats will become the priority I wouldn't hope for an addition of more than 3-500 due to the limitations.

Is the option of removing the endzone bleachers and replacing them with a similar set, only with a steeper pitch and more rows still an option? I seem to recall this was one way they were looking at adding a couple hundred seats per side.

I would blow out the East end wall and build a full-service branch of the Village Cafe opening out into the arena.

For all sorts of reasons it would never work, but it would be extremely awesome.

Less speaker music. Move the pregame video earlier, when team enters arena for final warm up. Current length kills crowd energy too close to tip.
