How is Charlotte going to be able to move to Conference USA without fielding an FCS football team? Are they going to move all sports, except football to Conference USA and then move their football team two years later?

Also, Conference USA is one step away from a Major Conference and we are now that much further. Here is a simple solution, especially if the A10 implodes because of the pending destruction to the Big East........why don't we buy City Stadium, fix it up and build a football team and move to Conference USA with ODU. The stadium already seats 25,000 and it will be a whole lot cheaper to temporarily renovate a stadium, than to build a new one. If Charlotte, can announce football and then move to Conference USA, we could do something similar. We are in a major metro area with no major sports. Right now Conference USA has 14 teams and will be looking to get to the magic number of 16. What do you think? To me it is a safer bet than the A10 who could lose their top teams.

    Yeah, its just that simple.

So you making the first $25,000 donation towards doing all of this?

It will take at least $7 million to start football--probably more. Remember: for every football scholarship you give, you must give an equal number of scholarships to women athletics. So if we add 50 some scholarships for men, that means 50 some scholarships for women. Then there is office space for all the coaches. And the stadium is in very bad shape, not to mention the field. Let's stick to basketball! (at least for now.)

Didn't UR replace the playing field with a turf system in 04? I seem to recall this being a pretty expensive upgrade at the time.

Oh i wouldn't be too sure if we let this slip away and the CAA falls apart. One of the main reasons A-10 is inviting us is probably because of how popular Shaka is. We wait it out and stay in the weak CAA and then Shaka moves on, we mine as well get ready to join the Big South in 5 years. But like i said in the other thread patience and i am sure VCU has given what side they are on to the right people.

Shaka said he loved it at VCU and would stay as long as they continue to do what is best for the program not go backwards aka stay in the CAA.

The article quoted him as saying he talked to probably half of the 31 conferences, not all.

I think JMU has been building a boat all these years that nobody really wants.

To me, I see their long term future as being another East Carolina. I wouldn't want to be an East Carolina.

I was just quoting RRR who said all. Didnt read the article. But clearly if he contacted 16+ different conferences, he was trying anything possible to get out of the sinking CAA. Cant blame ODU for that.

You may be right, John. And I am not sure how long they last. Also, the field has not been maintained for the last two years. Somebody more knowledable about football can probably better answer these concerns.

If we blow this Shaka has every right to walk out. I wouldn't blame him for leaving in the slightest.

UR uses the Field Turf setup and it is very nice. It is like Cary St Gym's playing surface but a little bit nicer.

    [IMG]...you mean like this????

btw...this visual analogy also applies to the state of the CAA. If you look closely you can see UNCW fans falling off the stern
