Would love to really make a push to get some people talking on this forum, and I don't necessarily mean trying to get everyone off the main forum to come here, but getting people who SPECIFICALLY go to women's games, and maybe have little to no interest in the men's games, chatting up VCU women's hoops on this forum. So If you've been posting on this forum for a while, follow the women's team, or are brand new to this forum....introduce yourself, and tell me your relationship to the women's team or how you got into going to VCU women's games. Also, I admit, we haven't really covered the women's team in the past, but keep in mind this website has also been a hobby for us. It takes up what little free time we have (and takes almost all of mine up, staying up until the wee hours of the morning editing video sometimes twice a week to have to wake up early to go to work the next morning), but I'm really going to try and figure a way to hopefully make this thing my job, and if and when that happens, kick up the women's coverage (PS. If you'd like to donate to that cause, feel free to send me a private message and we can figure out a way how). Personally I think the main strategy for VCU shouldn't be to try and get everyone who comes to the men's games to also come to the women's games (although it is nice when people have the time and can afford to do both), but to really build a women's team-specific fan base. Hopefully I can help with that IF I can, like I said...make VCURamNation.com my career.
I've been going to the womens games since I was in college. I go to just about every game each season. It's an exciting time for the team this year. IMO
Natty, thanks for your efforts to promote women's basketball to a wider audience. You are to be commended. I have written Marlene to welcome her to VCU. In that note, I made a committement to attend as many women's games as I can. Over the yeas Mrs. H and I have made many of the games. Annually, we attend their end-of-year banquet. All of us get lots of messages concerning the men's program. We seldom get emails about the women's program. That has got to change. In the past, we seldom saw the A.D. attend the women's games. When he did come, he seldom stayed the whole game. That has got to change. The new A.D. said he intends to support the women's program. I excitedly look forward to seeing this happen. His key staff also should attends the games. The statement must be made that women's basketball is important to the success of our total program. The fact that RamNation separates men and women basketball has always bothered me. Basketball is basketball (but that is another issue!). I love both programs.
Can you post some info on the ladies here. I have not been to a ladies game YET, would like to learn some more. Stats, pics....
http://www.vcuathletics.com/sports/wbkb/index The site should get you started. It is the women's basketball site. It includes pictures of the coaches; story about the new assistant coach, and roster for 2012-13 team. Most of the info is about last years team. This will change once the schedule comes out. I will add things as I discover them.
Just wanted to say that I am a supporter of VCU WBB - have been since my first day at VCU (even more so than the men since I worked very closely with the women). Beth took the program to really good levels. I welcome our new coach and can't wait to see how the players respond to her style. She's no none-sense and very good at player development. Should be fun.
I went to a handful of games while I was at VCU. I would have gone to more had I known about them, but I wasn't going looking for the dates. The only dates I recall getting emails about, and then going to, were 6th man rewards games. Suggestion: have the AD set up an email alert system that you can sign up for to send you an email every sunday with every VCU home game for every sport for that week. Bonus suggestion: Pick a different sport each week and give out a freebie (VCU plastic cup) to the first 250 people through the gate at that event.
