Jalen Ragland - When he has it going, Ragland can flat out shoot the basketball. In a morning win, Ragland had it absolutely working from three. He hit shot after shot from distance, and at 6-foot-5 with long arms, it is tough to really contest him when he is in the zone. The challenge for Ragland is now to be a consistent shooter game in and game out because he can be very hot and cold, but when he is in the zone he puts up big numbers.

Jalen Ragland is hearing from UTEP, Wright State, IUPUI, Vanderbilt, VCU, Ohio, Morehead State, and Miami-Ohio.

January, 2010: Jaylen is one of the top sleepers in the state of Ohio. He is a long and lanky wing with developing skills. He continues to grow as he has grown 2 inches in the past 12 months. He is a good but streaky shooter with range to 20 feet....

Sounds a lot like Jamar Abrams.

From the "time flies dept.," it just dawned on me that Jalen Rose - of Michigan's "Fab Five," is old enough to have high school seniors who might have been named after him. Jalen Rose (now retired from NBA) is 37.

For those that don't know, Jalen Rose's biological father is the late Jimmy Walker - the NBA's No. 1 overall draft pick out of Providence in 1967. Walker had no personal relationship with his son, but passed along some money-making genetics.

Walker played in the NBA from 67 to 74; Rose from 94 to 07; There have been many father-son combos to reach the NBA (including VCU's Gerald Henderson & Gerald Jr., and Terry/Ed Davis). I don't know if there's ever been a father-son combo to play at THE SAME TIME.

It's happened in baseball - mostly notably Ken Griffey Sr. and son, Junior.

NASCAR has had a lot -

Ralph and Dale Earnhart, Dale Jr.
Lee Petty, Richard Petty, Kyle Petty, Adam Petty
Bobby and Davey Allison
Don't think Ned raced with Dale or Glen Jarrett
Don't know if David ever raced with Larry Pearson

Those are just off the top of my head.

So did Indy:
Al, Al Junior
Andretti's

NHL:
The Howe's?

I think that the Griffey's are the only baseball father-son duo.

Tim Raines and Tim Raines Jr. did it in 2001 with Baltimore. The Griffeys - Senior and Junior - slugged back-to-back homers in 1999 ... imagine that. That would be fairly amazing in softball ... but MLB?

There are four THIRD-generation MLB families - the Bells, Boones, Hairstons and Schofield/Werths. The Phils' Jason Werth is the grandson of Ducky Schofield - a former Pittsburgh Pirate infielder.

Tim Floyd has received a commitment from Jalen Ragland, a 65″ small forward from Chillicothe Ohio. Ragland was drawing interest from schools across the beltway. He selected UTEP over heavy interest from Virginia Commonwealth, Duquesne, Wright State, Tulane, Marshall, Ohio, Kent State and others. He told Ohio Hoops that he selected UTEP after visiting El Paso over the weekend.
