Last year, Shaka Smart drew headlines by putting his players and staff through Seal Team training. He’s back at it. There’s an old saying with shooters that they are either hot or due. Shots didn’t always fall for VCU last season after losing four players from a Final 4 squad, a team loaded with guys who could hit from deep, but there was one constant: a chaotic pressure defense. 6’2 combo guard Briante Weber committed to VCU this past summer after VCU Elite Camp where he impressed the coaching staff enough to get an offer which he accepted. The two-time All-Southeastern District Defensive Player of the Year averaged 17 ppg, 8 rpg, 5 apg, and 4 steals per contest, picking the Rams over a number of other schools, but most notably garnering interest from UVA out of the ACC.
