After knocking off Rhode Island and Fordham in consecutive games, the VCU Rams can claim the title of “THE” Rams in the A-10. VCU knocked off both northern Rams teams after dropping their previous two games, and move to 6-2, good for a .5-game lead over our new conference mates in the Atlantic 10. Troy Daniels found his stroke and used it to dominate Fordham’s zone looks, hitting 10 of his 19 looks including seven from long range, good for [...]

Graham speaks softly, carries a redwood

Graham leads the Rams in offensive rebounds at 3.4 per game

Excuse me if I’ve written this blog once before, but Treveon Graham is quietly dominating teams and that deserves repeating. The sophomore was given the task of filling in for the legendary Bradford Burgess, if not by the coaching staff certainly by the media, 11 games in not only has he met expectations, he’s exceeded them. According to stat master Ken Pomeroy’s KenPom.com, Graham’s 122.2 offensive rating ranks tops in the Atlantic 10 among players used at least 24% of [...]

Despite 5-3 record, Rams may be ahead of schedule

For the second straight season, VCU has started their march to March with a 5-3 record. Those two starts couldn’t be any more different however, as this year’s Rams have proven themselves against some of the best in the country, while last year’s squad searched for an identity following the loss of four key seniors from a Final 4 team the previous season. So far, VCU has lost to three top 100 RPI teams this season: No.70 Missouri, No. 12 [...]

The Rams opened their regular season in typical VCU fashion, forcing 25 FGCU turnovers in tonight’s 80-57 home win. Briante Weber set the tone with a VCU single-game record 10 steals. The Rams swiped 22 in total on the night, also good for a VCU single-game record, passing the 20-steal total from Dec of 2011 against UNCW. Weber was more than just defense on the night however, as the sophomore was an incredibly efficient 6-7 from the field (1-1 from [...]

Game Day: VCU v. Virginia Union

dsc07436

Finally… After a whirlwind offseason that saw changes in leadership (out: Norwood Teague, in: Ed McLaughlin) and conference affiliation (a jump from CAA to A-10), we can get back to the business of playing basketball. Shaka Smart leads a highly-touted VCU squad (No.27 in both the AP and Coaches polls) into battle against crosstown exhibition rival Virginia Union. While the results of tonight’s game won’t make a scratch in either teams official record, make no mistake, this long exhibition rivalry [...]
