RICHMOND, Va. Ã¢â‚¬â€œ Virginia Commonwealth University seniorÃ‚Â Eric Maynor (Raeford, N.C.)supplied 14 points and nine assists, and the Rams held Old Dominion to a season-low point total in a 61-44 victory Saturday before a sellout crowd of 7,567 at the Siegel Center.
VCU has won a season-high five straight to improve to 13-5 overall and 6-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. ODU slumps to 10-7 overall, as well as 3-4 in league play. The Rams lead the all-time series with the Monarchs, 40-37.
SophomoreÃ‚Â Larry Sanders (Fort Pierce, Fla.)Ã‚Â scored a game-high 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting, including several dunks, for the Black and Gold. Fellow sophomoreÃ‚Â Brandon Rozzell (Richmond, Va.)Ã‚Â came off the bench to add a career-high 12 points in 16 minutes of play.
Ben Finney led ODU with 12 points, while Gerald Lee provided 10 points and 11 rebounds. Ã‚Â
The Monarchs shot just .345 (20-of-58) from the field, including .182 (2-of-11) from 3-pointÃ‚Â range. Ã‚Â The Rams managed a 38-38 stalemate on the boards against Old Dominion, which was out-rebounding its opponents by 6.5 per game. VCU also turned the ball over a season-low five times.

The Rams led wire-to-wire in the contest and held the Monarchs 23 points below their season average. VCU stormed out to a 13-4 lead as Old Dominion missed 10 of its first 12 field goal attempts. The Rams pushed their advantage to 20-8 following a 3-pointer from Rozzell with 11:21 left in the first half.
The Monarchs pieced together a 10-0 run, led by a pair of Frank Hassell jumpers, to close the margin to 20-18. However, by halftime, VCU had pushed the lead back to 35-26.Old Dominion could get no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 21 when they head to Atlanta, to meet Georgia State in a regionally televised contest at 7:30 p.m.
