The Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that Norwood Teague and the VCU athletic department have hired Florida Gator Assistant, Shaka Smart. Smart played ball at Kenyon College and started his coaching career as an associate coach for the Akron Zips for 3 seasons before moving to the ACC as assistant coach for the Clemson Tigers in 2006.

Matt has been reporting on VCU sports for Ram Nation since 2007 with a focus on news, photos, and feature stories.
He is a headline writer's/poster makers dream!

The more I read about him, the more I like him. He definitely is a coach committed to his team and the prospects he recruits. Also according to some articles I read about him, he's not one to go back on his word. Integrity and Dedication will drive him far in a sport that desperately needs it. I think he's a great candidate for our head coach. And though it's not right to have great expectations of him in his first year, we can't help but have expectations of him, and we can only wonder at how he'll do in his first year as head coach.

He sounds exciting. I have hope that he will make a winning coach for VCU.
