Eric Maynor was 2-3 from long range as his 14 points helped the Jazz to a 99-96 win over the Portland Trailblazers. Maynor added 5 assists and 2 steals in just under 23 minutes of play for Utah.
“If I’m open I’m going to shoot it with confidence at all times”, said Maynor after putting up one of his better shooting performances of this preseason.
Maynor has averaged 7.5 points and dropped 16 assists to only 4 turnovers thus far in exhibition play.
“He’s a very confident person,” Coach Jerry Sloan said, “likes to pass the ball, and obviously if he can shoot the ball in those situations, that makes a huge difference” added Sloan in reference to the second of Maynor’s tres, which gave the Jazz an 11 point lead with 3:20 left to play.
“He’s definitely poised for a rookie. He plays at his own pace, he doesn’t get too sped up. He makes good decisions. That’s what you like to see, especially from somebody that young”, added Jazz starting point Deron Williams.
The Jazz head to Sacramento Friday for their final preseason tune-up before beginning league play October 28th in Denver.
