Larry Sanders led a balanced VCU attack as the Rams handed Nevada its 2nd loss of this early hoops season. Sanders 17 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 blocks gave VCU an inside presence the black and gold often lacked their first 4 games, as Sander’s has found himself in foul trouble early and often this season.
Ed Nixon added a career high 17 points, perhaps no more important than a 3 point dagger within the final minute.
VCU outscored the high powered Wolf Pack on a season high 85 points, shooting 49% for the game.
Nine Rams scored, but only three found double figures as the balanced VCU attack never trailed.
VCU lead by as many as 20 points, but Nevada was able to close the lead in the later portion of the game behind Luke Babbitt’s 27 points, 23 of which came in the second half.
Bradford Burgess scored all 12 of his points in the second half. Four of his five rebounds came in the first half.
TJ Gwynn posted another solid outing, shutting down Luke Babbitt the e-1tire first half, and scoring 9 points with 7 rebounds.
Joey Rodriguez lead the Rams with 6 assists and scored 7 points on 2-5 shooting.
The Rams move to 4-1 and take on A-10 Rhode Island Wednesday night in a rematch of last year’s road loss.
