Joey Rodriguez was named to the CAA Preseason First Team at yesterday’s CAA media day in Arlington. Â Rodriguez returns as the Rams top scorer (12.9) and last years top assist (5.8) man in the conference. Â He also tied for first in steals.
The senior point guard finished his junior season a Second Team All-CAA award winner, having to fill in for NBA rookie Eric Maynor. Â Rodriguez will lead a group of Rams projected to finish 3rd in the CAA behind Old Dominion and George Mason.
VCU finished a disappointing 5th in the CAA this past season after a hot start in out-of-conference play. Â The Rams rallied but eventually fell to CAA champ ODU in an overtime CAA semi final thriller.
The Black and Gold settled for a 2010 CBI Championship in which Joey averaged 17.8 points and 5.6 assists.
