The Streak Continues, VCU Routs Hofstra, Grabs First Place

ESPNU couldn’t have asked for a better match up. Two teams battling it out for sole possesion of the top spot in the CAA. Hofstra stand out, Charles Jenkins, is a candidate for CAA player of the year and VCU has some senior stand outs of their own in Joey Rodriguez and Jamie Skeen.

Thursday nights match up would not dissappoint as the Rams took first place in the conference routing Hofstra 82 to 67.

The Rams got out to an early lead behind Freshman, Juvonte Reddic’s 8 points of the Rams first 14 and finished with 13. Skeen chipped in 13 of his 18 points in the first half which allowed the Rams to lead 48-33 into the break.

The key to keeping the home winning streak alive would be shutting down Hofstra’s future NBA prospect, Jenkins. He still managed to score 15 points in the first but none in the last 5 minutes of the first half and kept him scoreless the first 8 and half minutes into the second. He ended with 21 on the night.

Rebounding was crucial in the Rams victory as they defeated the Pride by double digits in the battle of the glass, 39-30. Free throws also played a factor in the blowout. Rams found themselves at the line 25 times connecting on 21 of them. Hofstra only found their way to the charity stripe 14 times and hit 10.

VCU had a pretty big scare as Skeen hit the floor hard and found himself sidelined with ice around his knee. Early reports are that he suffered a sprain knee.

VCU next match up is a home game against the Seahawks of UNCW.
