This is where the highlights used to be

Ram Nation, believe me when I tell you nothing hurts me more than not providing YOU, the fans, the quality highlights of VCU hoops action you deserve.

Don’t get me wrong, we’ve been at the games, filming, trying to look professional while wanting to yell out every time we make a play, or throw out an obscenity every time a ref makes a bad call…but Nation I cannot lie to you, there has been a serious shortage of the quality basketball we have grown used to relaying back to the viewer.

Fact is the end of this year’s regular season was the worst our lens or the Siegel Center has ever seen.

The 0-4 finish to our conference season, including three straight home losses with two nationally televised smackdowns by bitter rivals made our black-and-gold appear more of the Towson variety than the shades of VCU that sent teams dancing in 2007 and 2009.

I’m sad to say the Siegel Center just witnessed it’s first three home losses in a season since ’02-’03 (Jeff Capel’s first year as head coach), and the first 3-game home losing streak…ever.

As much as I love editing highlights of our games, frankly I’d rather have no visible record of that kind of performance on this site.

Sitting in front of this MacBook and having to rewatch AND EDIT (to upbeat music mind you) that kind of collapse would be like someone forcing me to watch three of my all-time worst dates, and then mix them into a highlight package with a Jay-Z soundtrack.  I just can’t do it (although if you wait a couple of hours/days you might see a “top plays” style highlight video, because truth be told, there were some individual plays that were just too good to be lost forever).

Do I think the Rams can go on a 3-game win streak and make some of that old fashioned sweet lemonade out of the lemons we’ve been served over the past two weeks?  Yes.

Do you care what I think?  Probably not.

Either way, we’ve got one of the best fan bases in the CAA, and I know we all want three beautiful games of highlights starting this Saturday and ending this Monday so I can stuff site full of gigabytes and we can relive some glory for a change.

So Rams…Coach Smart and team, if you’re reading…hook – it – up.

Players, put us in a position to celebrate.

Coaches, put us in a position to win.

No more easy layups, no more “havoc”, just a smart (lowercase), hard-nosed brand of basketball and a 3-game comeback story that’ll see three CAA teams dancing for the first time ever.

Win on 3…. . . .1-2-3…
