Video: VCU v Drexel, CAA Tournament Quarterfinals

It should come as no surprise that this cardiac rivalry ended the way it did.

Once again, VCU and Drexel scrapped until the final second, and once again a player made a great play.

The 4th seeded Rams escaped the 5 seed Drexel Dragons behind the heroics of Jamie Skeen in CAA quarterfinal action, winning 62-60 on the senior’s last second shot.

The Rams held a 4-point lead until Drexel’s Chris Fouch nailed a 3-pointer with 29 seconds to play.

After two Joey Rodriguez made free throws, Fouch rose to the occasion once again, draining a game-tying 3-pointer with just 18 seconds on the clock.

Coming out of a timeout with just 13 ticks on the clock, Ed Nixon found Jamie Skeen in a one-on-one situation that spelt doom for the Dragons season.

Skeen backed down 6’8 senior Yannick Formbor, then spun to the right to hit the game winning shot as time expired.

The win was the Rams 22nd of the season, and earned them a ticket to the tournament semifinals to play a nationally ranked George Mason team that handed VCU it’s worst home loss of the season.

Enjoy the highlights of the exciting victory, as be sure to get to the Coliseum Sunday at noon to root on the Rams as they try to keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive.
