Following a buzzer-beating win just a day ago, VCU looked to pick up their second straight and advance to the CAA title game by defeating a nationally ranked George Mason team that handed the Rams a 20-point home loss in their last meeting.
VCU did just that in the 79-63 win with perhaps one of their best performances of the season, jumping out to a 14-point first half lead and answering every run the nations hottest team through at them.
Jamie Skeen lead the charge once again, scoring a game high 21 points and hitting 4-of-6 from beyond the 3-point line.
Bradford Burgess continued his hot tournament play as well, grabbing a game high 13 rebounds to go with his 16 points on the afternoon.
The Rams saw a balanced game out of their senior backcourt, getting double-digit scoring from Joey Rodriguez (13) and Brandon Rozzell (11), as well as a game high 5 assists from Ed Nixon to go with his 9 points in the win.
This was the third straight year in which the Rams knocked Mason out of the CAA tournament, as well as Mason’s first loss in a 17-game span.
VCU threw a plethora of defensive looks at the CAA’s top scoring team and held them to their third worst offensive output of the season.
The Black-and-Gold will face rival Old Dominion in the CAA Championship game tomorrow night at the Richmond Coliseum, 7PM.
We encourage you all to get there to cheer on the Rams in person, but those who can’t will be able to catch the game on ESPN.
Enjoy these highlights during what promises to be your least productive work day in some time.
