Shaka Smart staying at VCU

Greg Doyle of CBSSports.com broke the news earlier today that VCU Head Coach Shaka Smart has turned down an offer at NC State and will instead sign a deal reportedly in the seven figure range to remain at VCU.

In an email written to CharlotteObserver.com, VCU Athletic Director Norwood Teague said, “He is staying, we agreed to terms this morning.”

When asked if NC State had made an offer Teague wrote, “”Yes, they talked to him and made an offer. We countered and he is staying!!!”

The Wolfpack play in a power conference, the ACC, and have to NCAA titles but it’s been a long time since NC State was an attractive job. The Wolfpack have failed to make the tournament since 2006 and have just one Sweet Sixteen appearance in the last 21 years.
