Smart to serve as assistant on U18 USA Basketball squad

For the second consecutive year, VCU head coach Shaka Smart will serve as an assistant for USA Basketball’s U-18 team, joining former boss at Florida, Billy Donovan, and Gonzaga head coach Mark Few during this year’s 2012 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, played in Brazil from June 16-20.

Smart told VCUAthletics.com, “”It means a great deal to be selected to participate in USA Basketball and be a part of team that is going overseas to represent our country…I’m really excited about working with both Billy Donovan and Mark Few, quite simply they are two of the absolute best in the business.”

Tryouts and training camp will be held from June 5-12 in Colorade Springs, Colo., with the games getting underway June 16th in Sao Sebastiao do Praiso, Brazil.
