After having a full week off, VCU (18-5) traveled to Charlotte to play the 49ers (17-5). VCU was looking for their third straight win in conference play while the 49ers were looking to get a big home win for their fans. Sadly, despite keeping it close at times, the Rams left Charlotte with a 68-61 win.

Junior Rob Brandenberg had a huge night and led all Rams in scoring with 21, shooting 7-12 on the night, hitting 3-5 from three point land which allowed VCU to maintain their lead throughout the night.

Junior Juvonte Reddic followed suit, helping out the Rams with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Sophomore Treveon Graham had the hot hand in the first half but got into foul trouble in the second, picking up with 4th foul with plenty of time left to play, Graham ended the night with 12 points.

After a few hot games and coming off a 27 point night last Saturday, Senior Troy Daniels was quiet on the night with just 5 points, with about 38 minutes between his two field goals.

The Rams defense gave UNCC fits early on that allowed VCU to get out in front 18-8, 10 minutes into the game. Charlotte turned the ball over 17 times on the night while VCU only gave it up 10 times.

The 49ers were able to rally and go on a 10-0 run to make it just a 1 point game with under a minute to play in the first half.

But VCU came out swinging in the second half, as Brandenberg stopped any UNCC momentum with a steal and dunk within the opening seconds of the 2nd half. From that point on UNCC would never get within 6 points of the Rams, and that not even happening until the final minute of the game.

VCU moves onto to 19-5 (7-2) and returns to the Siegel Center on Thursday, February 14th, as the Rams will hope to break the hearts of UMASS and all their fans on Valentine’s Day.
