Several coaching moves to report this week, two of which coming from men’s hoops.
With the departure of Will Wade to UT Chattanooga, Coach Smart promoted Director of Basketball Operations, Mike Morell, to assistant coach. He then immediately filled Morrell’s DBO position with former grad assistant, Jesse Bopp.
Bopp most recently served as Head Basketball Coach and Assistant Dean of Students at Vermont Academy. He acted as a graduate manager under Coach Smart during the 2009-2010 season after coming to VCU with Smart from Florida the prior season where he was a manager under Billy Donovan as Smart honed his skills as an assistant before joining the Rams.
Bopp is a 2010 graduate of VCU’s Center for Sport Leadership program.
The other major hire came in the form of Lindsey Vanderspiegel, VCU’s newest women’s soccer Head Coach.
Vanderspiegel takes over a team that played in the Atlantic 10 tournament final under the family coaching duo of Tim and Tiffany Sahaydak.
The William & Mary grad returns to her home state after coaching two seasons at Georgia Southern.
VCU hoops still has one available postion as former Video Coordinator, Donny Lind, recently accepted an assistant position at Mt. Saint Mary’s under former VCU assistant, Jamion Christian.
