VCU moved to 9-3 on the season with a 72-57 win over Wofford Tuesday night. The Rams stepped up the defense, holding Wofford to 38.5% shooting and forced 20 Terrier turnovers.
The Rams struggled to hit shots themselves, connecting on just 37.5% of their attempts in the win, but were able to get to the free throw line for 34 free throw attempts, 25 of which they converted into points.
Treveon Graham once again led all scorers with a game-high 18 points in just 24 minutes of play. The preseason A-10 First-Teamer was joined by last week’s A-10 Rookie of the Week, JeQuan Lewis, as the only Rams in double figures. Lewis posted 16 points in 19 minutes off the bench while hitting five of his eight attempts and grabbed four steals in the win.
Jared Guest added seven points off the bench for VCU and Jordan Burgess impressed defensively, helping to hold Wofford leading scorer, Spencer Collins, to 1-9 shooting and just two points on the evening.
The Rams take on Virginia Tech in a rare matchup between the two at the Richmond Coliseum this Saturday at 5:30PM as a part of the Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic.
