VCU 86, Bona 67. Or, Grab Your Bag and Grab Your Coat…
It was an emotional evening, this Siegel Center sendoff to Juvonte Reddic and Rob Brandenberg. Take my word for it when I say it was all of that and more in the locker room. Tears, smiles, hugs, and a deep sense that this was nice but we have much more to do permeated the back halls of That Animal.
Give the Bonnies credit–they took punch after punch but never went away. They are a tough team, but eventually VCU wore them down. The 19-point victory was only the second time all season St. Bonaventure lost by double figures.
This team has a certain bond I don't know that I've seen before. That doesn't guarantee wins–you still have to go onto the court and execute. However when a game gets to the teeth-clenching moments where you have to rely on a teammate, VCU is a one seed.
The victory, when coupled with LaSalle winning at St. Joseph's yesterday afternoon, plops VCU into the #2 hole for the A-10 tournament. The Rams await the winner of Richmond/Duquesne. We play Friday at 6:30.
Lots more this week, but until then, enjoy the Unofficial Theme Song of This Week. We are headed north:
