Just a few hours after dropping their second consecutive Atlantic 10 final in Brooklyn, the Rams (26-8) learned their NCAA tournament fate, drawing the No.5 seed in the South region and a matchup against the No.12 in that bracket, Stephen F. Austin (31-2) in San Diego. The game tips at 7:27PM ET and will air on TruTV.
It’s the second consecutive season VCU has drawn that seed, defeating Akron this past season before falling to eventual national runner-up Michigan in Ann Arbor — 45 minutes from their campus.
They’ll face a similar setup this season, taking on a Stephen F. Austin team that is riding one of the longest winning streaks — 28 games — by a team not currently a No.1 seed. Whichever team gets past that battle will take on the winner of No.4 UCLA and No.13 Tulsa. UCLA won the Pac-12 Championship after upsetting No.1 seed Arizona. Tulsa comes to the tournament as the CUSA champion.
Stephen F. Austin hasn’t lost a game since falling at ETSU on November 23 in their fifth game of the season.
Details on that matchup coming up in our game preview later this week.
