VCU formally announced plans to build a $25 million practice facility today.

The project once slated to be built in between the Siegel Center and Bowe St. parking deck will instead rise just across Marshall St., directly behind the Siegel Center. The facility will house courts for both men’s and women’s basketball, as well as locker rooms, offices, sports medicine, weight training and nutrition areas, and all the other bells and whistles that will hope to make VCU’s practice facility competitive with the best in the country.

VCU raised $14.5 million in private donations that will go toward the facility. The remaining $10.5 million will come from a reallocation of student fees currently being used to pay off a part of the debt on the Siegel Center. That money becomes available in 2016. No state funds will be used and no student fees will be raised to pay for the project.
