Daniels shines but Rockets come up just short

Former Ram, Troy Daniels, posted a career playoff-best 17 points in 21 minutes off the bench last night.

Former VCU gunslinger, Troy Daniels, continued his sensational play off the bench in last night’s NBA playoff game between the Houston Rockes and Portland Trailblazers, but saw his team come up just short on the losing end of a 123-120 final that gave Portland a 3-1 lead in the series.

The Trailblazers season would have been officially over had the 2013 VCU grad not hit a game-winning three-pointer this past Friday in overtime.

Daniels continued to have the hot hand last night, hitting five of his seven attempts from the field including 4-5 shooting from long range. He’s hit 63.6% of his threes this postseason.

The Rockets led the majority of the night before finding themselves down by seven with 1:31 to play when¬†VCU’s all-time leading three-point shooter grabbed an offensive rebound that he quickly converted into a drained three. Teammate, James Harden, hit a jumper 10 seconds later to cut the lead to two before Portland’s Damian Lillard extended the Blazers’ lead to four at the free throw line.

Daniels then came up big again, missing a three with eight seconds to play but was fouled in the process. He then proceeded to hit all three of his free throws (the only ones he’s taken thus far as an NBA player), cutting the lead to one.

Portland hit two at the line on the other end to extend the lead to three, and with Daniels positioned in the corner for a potential game-tyer, he could only stand and watch as guard, Patrick Beverly, turned the ball over at halfcourt, one of the Rocket’s 16 on the evening.

The Rockets were +9 when Troy was on the court, tops among all Houston players.

Houston will fight for their playoff lives when they return to Texas this Wednesday in a do-or-die 9:30PM game five tip.
