The VCU men’s hoops team gifted Ram fans a blowout road win at Cincinnati today, rolling the Bearcats 68-47 to give the black and gold a top-50 road win early in the season.

The Rams used a hot touch from deep to burry the Cats. VCU hit 48.4% of their 31 three-point attempts to jump out to a huge early lead that they would never come close to surrendering.

Junior Melvin Johnson led VCU with a game-high 18 points in the win. The Bronx, NY native connected on four of his nine three-point attempts against a Cincinnati Bearcat team that ranked 29th nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency heading into this one.

Cinci may have started the afternoon as the team with the best defensive rep this season but it was the Rams who clamped down on the Bearcats offense all afternoon. VCU held Cincinnati to  33.3% shooting from the field while turning over the AAC team 15 times in the win.

Briante Weber led the Rams with three steals in the win, moving him to 14th all-time on the NCAA’s all-time steals list.

Treveon Graham added 12 points for the Rams and added five rebounds and a game-high six assists.

Jordan Burgess rounds out the list of VCU’s double-digit scorers with 11 points for VCU. Burgess connected on three of his five attempts and was 4-6 overall for the Rams.

Doug Brooks, Mo Alie-Cox and Terry Larrier all finished with six points.

The win is VCU’s third straight and their eighth of the season, moving VCU to 8-3 heading into Monday’s home tip against East Tennessee State.
