You’ve seen some nice highlights from tonight I’m sure already but now you get to see mine as well.
The Rams routed Belmont thanks to one of VCU’s best defensive performances of the season coupled with some serious bench scoring, 56 points off the bench to be exact in VCU’s 78-51 win over the always solid Belmont Bruins.
Justin Tillman led the bench and VCU’s team as a whole with 16 points on 7-8 shooting in just 17 minutes of play. Tillman was joined by fellow feshmen, Terry Larrier and Michael Gilmore, who posted eight each off the bench, with Gilmore grabbing a game-high eight rebounds in just 18 minutes of action. The last piece of VCU’s four-man freshman puzzle, Jonathan Williams, was held scoreless (0-1) but led all players with a game-high seven assists in 16 minutes of play.
JeQuan Lewis continued his comeback from a concussion that seemed to slow him down a few games following VCU’s win over Tennessee in which he sustained the injury. Lewis posted 13 points in 13 minutes, hitting 50% of his attempts including 3-of-6 three-pointers. Lewis led all players with five steals on the night, tying a career-high he accomplished twice last season as a freshman.
Treveon Graham added 11 points and six rebounds for the Rams.
The win moves VCU to 7-3 on the season heading into a tough road tilt at Cincinnati this Saturday. Game tips at noon and will air on ESPNU.
