It’s a fantastic day in Ram Nation as Coach Will Wade got his first commitment as head coach at VCU in the form of 6’7 forward, Gerron Scissum.
Scissum was down to Murray State, Ole Miss, Louisiana Tech, Maryland, and VCU. Murray State had been leading that race for some time as he had visited the Racers’ campus on multiple occasions.
Wade recruited him at Chattanooga and when he later got the job at VCU, Scissum expressed interest in visiting campus. He took an official visit last weekend and committed to Coach Wade and the Rams today.
Scissum averaged 16.4 ppg, 9.0 rpg and shot 40.2% from 3-point range during his senior season at Lee-Huntsville (AL), led the Generals to the state semifinals, was named Class 6A first-team All-State and was finalist for 6A Player of the Year. The 6’7 forward is an ideal replacement for the role former 2015 commit Jordan Murphy would have filled at VCU as a system guy who plays hard with a blue-collar work ethic.
Congratulations to Coach Wade on getting the first of several recruits to come in his first signing period as Head Coach at VCU. We’re just getting started! Let’s go VCU!
