After their first loss on the season to Duke on Friday, VCU had a quick turnaround to face Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. It would be a battle until the very end as Wisconsin proved to be too much for VCU in the 3rd place game.

VCU would keep Wisconsin’s lead to single digits for most of the first half but would cut their lead to just 1 point by the under 4 minute timeout.
VCU would eventually make a run to get their first lead with just under 3 minutes left off an AND1 opportunity by Junior Ahmed Hamdy. The Rams would go into half time with a 6 point lead as Senior Melvin Johnson would nail a deep three as time expires to close out the first half.
VCU failed to carry the momentum into the second half. The Badgers would retake the lead after going on a 7-0 run 6 minutes into the half. But VCU would not go away without a fight.
The Rams would tie it up at 71 each with a dunk from Junior Mo Alie-Cox with just 2:15 left to play. The Badgers as they would hit the game winner in the paint with 5 seconds. A long range three from Johnson as time expire couldn’t connect to give VCU one final winning bucket.
Johnson would lead all Rams in scoring with 21 on the night while Senior Korey Billbury would be next with 17 points. For Wisconsin, it was their Sophomore, Bronson Koenig, would be the thorn in Coach Wade’s side as he led all Badgers with 22 points.
