VCU traveled to St. Louis to take on the Billikens on Sunday. The Rams looked to extend their current win streak to 6 games. The Billikens are just a shade under .500 with the 6-8 recording going into Sunday’s competition. Fortunately, VCU would see 4 players score in double digits to get the win, 72-56.

The Rams took an early lead as they opened the game with a 13-0 run. Senior Korey Billbury was responsible for 6 of those 13 points. Billbury ended the night with 14 points.

The first half saw 40 free throw attempts, 23 for SLU and 17 for VCU. Their free throws kept SLU in the game as they only made 2 field goals in the first half. The Billikens didn’t get their first field goal until 6:30 left in the first half.

With shooting just 15% from the field in the first half, SLU’s 20 free throws allowed VCU to go into the break with just a 4 point lead.

VCU regained focus in the second half and resumed control of the game.

Senior Melvin Johnson would light it up again from all over with 15 points and also grabbed 5 rebounds in the win.

Junior Mo Aie-Cox would have another huge, aggressive performance on the road. Alie-Cox would lead VCU scorers with 16 on the night and 4 rebounds, 4 assists and just one foul.

Junior Doug Brooks also finally found his shot as he chipped in 11 points for the Rams and would go 2-8 from the field, all from behind the arc.

VCU moves to 11-5 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. The Rams will host Fordham on Wednesday, January 13th at 7pm.
