Mo Alie-Cox Getting Attention During NFL Draft

VCU’s Mo Alie-Cox was recently mentioned during this year’s NFL Draft coverage, as one who could easily make the transition to professional football. This isn’t the first time it has been discussed – USA Today wrote a piece last year when Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Whitten visited a VCU game. It’s tough to watch a VCU game lately without commentators marveling over the size of Alie-Cox’s calves, let alone the power he possesses in a 6-6 frame. In fact, on several occasions last season, NFL scouts were on the media list for VCU home games.

The video below is further proof that Mo has options beyond basketball following his career at VCU:

“Go back and watch some footage from the NCAA tournament, and see dreads flying, people hitting the floor, people getting out of his way, he’s going to be a guy we’re going to test out and make him a football player”.

Matt has been reporting on VCU sports for Ram Nation since 2007 with a focus on news, photos, and feature stories.

So true. Mo is a fantastic athlete. I always thought he could make the transition, but the real moment when I knew for sure was at the end of the game at Richmond this season. In the last few seconds when the spiders tried to inbound the ball with a huge half court throw, Mo leapt into the air over everyone, grabbed the ball one handed, took a few massive strides and jammed it home to finalize the win. Just put a football in for a basketball and we essentially saw how the baddest man in VA would catch a contested pass and rip through a defense. As an alum and huge fan of my rams, no matter what team he ends up playing for I'm getting his NFL jersey.
