Video: VCU wins home opener against UNC Ashville [INSIDER]

Will Wade’s second season as head coach of the Rams opened up with VCU hosting UNC Asheville. The Rams looked to continue their tradition of winning the home opener and the 80-65 win Friday night made it 11 in a row.

After the stunning 2 point loss in the exhibition to DII team, Queens University of Charlotte, the Rams turned it around in what marked just their second match up in history. VCU owning the first game in 1974, 111-70.

Senior Mo Alie-Cox led all Rams in scoring with 15 points while Junior Justin Tillman was right behind with 14 points. Senior Hamdy Mohamed grabbed 6 points in the win.

Ram nation got their first (official) sighting of Samir Doughty who scored 10 buckets in his VCU debut.

VCU shot 55% on the night, hitting 31-56 baskets and going 6 for 19 from behind the arc.

VCU will travel to Lynchburg on Tuesday to play the Liberty Flames.
