Video: VCU opens conference play with win; beats George Mason 73-64 [INSIDER]

Friday night ram nation traveled up to Fairfax to see VCU kick off its 5th season of Atlantic 10 conference play against George Mason. Coach Wade and company avenged their loss last time in Fairfax with a 73-64 win Friday night against the Patriots.

The VCU victory ends a current 9 game winning streak for the Patriots and is the 5 consecutive win for VCU.

JeQuan Lewis led VCU in the Rams road win at Mason scoring a game-high 26 points.

Senior JeQuan Lewis led all Rams in scoring with 26 points in the contest. Lewis shot 9 of 21 from the field. VCU would see 2 others score in double digits, senior Moe Alie-Cox, 14, and Junior Johnny Williams, 12.

VCU turned the ball over 21 times, which usually doesn’t bode well for the Rams but tonight it would not be the deciding factor. George Mason turned the ball over 17 times.

The glass was fought and won by team VCU. The Rams out rebounded the Patriots 42 -31.

The win moves VCU to 11-3 on the season and the team will travel to play Duquesne on Wednesday January 4th at 7pm. The game will be televised on the American Sports Network.
