Rams get payback win against Wildcats, 74-60

With a 6 game win streak on the line, VCU (20-5, 10-2 A10) was able to avenge an early season conference loss to Davidson, 74-60.

JeQuan Lewis led all Rams with 27 points while shooting 50% (4-8) from three-point land. The senior guard also landed 7-8 from the free throw line.

The Wildcats came out of the gates and opened with an 8-2 run to stun the Rams. Davidson was able to keep a two-possession cushion for most of the first half, but a jumper by Lewis with 8:33 on the clock would start a 15-4 run by the Rams to take a 31-28 lead into the locker room.

Davidson sharpshooter, Jack Gibbs, who also ended with 27 points and 9 rebounds on the night, had a team high 12 points at intermission.

Justin Tillman grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with his 13 points. It would be the third straight double-double for the junior power forward.

A Mo Alie-Cox (10pts/5reb) dunk with 15:53 left to play would give the Rams a 38-36 advantage. It was the final lead change of the night.

The Rams used a rebounding differential of 44-36 to add 12 second-chance points.

Davidson, however, was able to outscore VCU in the paint, 32-26.

The win tonight secures the Rams their 11th consecutive year of having at least 20 wins.

VCU returns to action Tuesday, February 14th at 6:00PM to face the Hawks of St. Joseph’s. The game will be broadcast on CBSSN.
