Video: VCU rides Lewis’ career high in win against Saint Joseph’s, 91-81[INSIDER]

VCU looked to push their win streak to seven games in a row but they have would have to beat Saint Joseph’s to do so. Unlike the last meeting of these two teams, at the Atlantic 10 conference finals last year, the Rams had the final say in the 91-81 win.

Once again, it was senior JeQuan Lewis who led all Rams in scoring, this time with a career high 34 points. Three other Rams scored in the double digits. Senior Doug Brooks chipped in 12 points, while collecting 5 fouls, freshman Samir Doughty scored 10 and junior Justin Tillman notched another double double on the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

It was a back and forth game that saw 13 different lead changes from start to finish. It got ugly in the end as VCU didn’t get a field goal in the last 7:17 and only free throws in the final 3 minutes and 54 seconds.

Teams were evenly matched up on the boards, 34-33, VCU grabbing just one more rebound than the Hawks.

The win moves VCU to 21-5 (11-2) on the season. They will travel 8 miles down the road to play Richmond on Friday at 9pm. The game will be televised on the ESPN family of networks.
