VCU completes sweep, knocks out GMU, 71-60

VCU completed a season-sweep over GMU with a 71-60 Quarterfinal win in today’s A10 tournament matchup.

The Rams started the game on a 12-2 run before the Patriots answered with a 14-2 run of their own to take their first lead, 16-14.

From there the game would see 9 ties and 10 different lead changes.

A Doug Brooks (8pts/5reb) three pointer with 7:05 left on the clock in the second half would give the Rams a 51-50 lead. They would hold that lead for the remainder of the game.

De-Riante Jenkins would lead all Rams today with 15 points on 3-3 shooting from deep. He would also add 4 rebounds in his post-season debut for the Rams.

Samir Doughty would also add 10 points for the Rams coming off the bench.

The Rams bench outscored the GMU bench 33-11.

VCU was able to translate 14 GMU turnovers into 20 points.

Senior JeQuan Lewis lead the team with 7 assists and clocked all 13 of his points in the second half, including two critical three pointers used to extend the VCU lead.

Jordan Burgess was the only other Ram to score in double-figures with 10 points and 7 rebounds. He led the team in rebound on the night.

Jalen Jenkins scored 15 points for the Patriots and was their leading scorer on the night.

Marquise Moore joined Jenkins with 11 point and a game-high 17 rebounds.

VCU will face the winner of the Richmond/George Washington game scheduled for an 8:30PM tip-off later tonight.

The Rams will return to action tomorrow at 3:30PM. That game will be broadcast on CBSSN.
