VCU played in their 5th consecutive Atlantic 10 conference finals on Sunday, this time against Rhode Island. After a cold start, VCU fought back but it was not enough in the 70-63 loss.

Senior JeQuan Lewis, once again, led all VCU Rams in scoring with 15 points. Lewis also had 3 assists. Only one other player scored in double digits, Junior Justin Tillman. Tillman also grabbed 17 rebounds to make it his second double double of the tournament.

URI’s biggest lead was 17, 11 minutes into the game. VCU battled back but could never take the lead.

Hassan Martin, E.C. Matthews and Jared Terrell combined for 50 of Rhode Island’s 70 points.

URI shot 24 of 54 on the afternoon while VCU shot just 21-67, 44% and 31% respectively.

The loss moves VCU to 26-8 on the season. The team is all but assured that they will hear their name called later this evening during CBS’ Selection Sunday show.
