Samir Doughty to transfer from VCU
VCU just dropped a bombshell on Ram fans this offseason with the announcement that Samir Doughty will be transferring out of the program effective immediately. The university didn’t offer much in terms of reasoning, stating that due to federal privacy laws, they would not be providing further details.
VCU head coach Mike Rhoades weighed in on the departure with the following quote:
“We have discussed Samir’s future with him and decided together that it is best that he transfer from our program. We wish him well in his basketball career and future endeavors”
Doughty also posted the following tweet regarding his transfer:

Samir averaged 9 points per game in his freshman season with the Rams, and was poised to fill a huge vacancy left with the graduation of senior guard Jequan Lewis. The Philly native will have 3 years of eligibility left wherever he ends up landing, and will likely draw attention from a number of schools.
With the departure of Samir Doughty, VCU is left with 5 returning players: Justin Tillman (senior), Jonathan Williams (senior), De’Riante Jenkins (sophomore), Malik Crowfield (sophomore), and Issac Vann (sophomore). However, new head coach Mike Rhoades has stocked up on commits and transfers with 6 new players joining the Rams for the 2017-2018 season. A full list of commits and details are available here.
