It didn’t end the way Ram Nation had hoped, but VCU fans were treated to some great July basketball thanks to the team’s Elite 8 run in this year’s The Basketball Tournament.
Team Ram Nation grabbed two double-digit leads on Sunday night including a 10-point second half advantage, but just couldn’t hang on late, allowing the two-time defending champs, Overseas Elite, to regain the lead and send the VCU alumni packing for the second consecutive summer.
Brandon Rozzell scored caught fire early and ended the game with a team-high 23 points while VMI grad Reggie Williams added a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Nation, but it just wasn’t enough against an experienced Overseas team that came up with the big plays and lockdown defense when they needed it the most.
