Rams lockdown defense stops Keydets in their tracks, 75-65

For the second game in a row, VCU’s defense came out with an intensity that fueled their offense to the finish line.

VCU (8-5) turned the visiting Keydets of VMI over 17 times in route to a 75-65 victory.

The game marked three straight wins for the Rams—their first such streak this season.

The Rams scored 21 points off the 17 turnovers from VMI.

VMI guards, Keith Smith and Bubba Parham, turned the ball over 7 and 5 times respectively.

Three Rams ended the night with at least two steals: Tyler May (2), Jonathan Williams (2), and De’Riante Jenkins (4).

For the fourth time this year, Justin Tillman notched a double-double. He recorded a game-high 19 points to go along with 13 rebounds and 2 blocks.

Sophomore, De’Riante Jenkins, the only other Ram in double digit scoring, tallied 17 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals.

Jonathan Williams was just shy of recording a double-double of his own with 9 points and 9 assists.

Almost half of the Rams points (36) came from within the paint.

The Rams led by as many as 23 points in the second half. VMI was able to get as close as 8 points with 35 seconds left in the contest, but would get no closer.

VCU returns to action Saturday, December 30th as they host Fordham at 12pm. This will be the first conference game of the season for VCU.
